    Well, for those still interested in the original thread (anyone? ), I did some slight modifications to my custom heat sink - mainly switched the fan with a standard 70 mm one that came bundled with that heat sink. Also slightly changed the way the retention mechanism works - now it holds the heat sink by pushing down on that 70 mm fan. Pics coming soon. It all looks a little better though... until you look at the case I installed this motherboard in . But I think that may be material for another thread. There's just too much handiwork to show here .

        Hello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.

        The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...

        Metod for removing glued heatsink from fragile component

        I have peltir element glued to heatsink with something thick and sticky like putty... it cant be separate with force or heat without risk of breaking ceramic or damaged semiconductor layers due to force (eg if try twisted, pulled, lifted)... method that I am using is a single thread for needle (thin and firm thread of pure polyester that cant break with bare hands without glowes), and using it like a saw between heatsink and peltir. I holding a heatsink with knee against table. It slowly cut throug putty and release glued parts. It is slow proces, but preserve undamaged component and heatsink....

        Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea.         Hello everyone,

        I'm looking to upgrade the heatsink on the main processor of my TV's motherboard for better cooling performance.

        The current heatsink is a square-shaped one (2.8cm x 2.8cn) with a basic design, and I believe a more efficient heatsink could help with thermal management and potentially extend the life of the TV.

        I'd appreciate any advice on the best type of heatsink to use, specific product recommendations, and tips for installation.

        Mid/late 80's Nichicon Yellow Caps

        I recently acquired a set of Bose Roomate speakers from the mid to late 80's. Basically the right speaker cabinet is completely passive, and the left one has the power transformer and amplifier circuit in it. Out of curiosity, I opened it up to see what the circuit looked like. Looks like they used all Nichicon VX (2x 4700uF/16v for smoothing off the bridge rectifier), a couple random Nichicon SE series sprinkled on the board, and what really caught my eye - 2 yellow sleeved Nichicon caps (both 1uF/50v with no real series marking.
