EFI the Extensible Firmware Interface, the replacement for the BIOS will not be supported by windows vista in the intitial release at least...
ugh........................................
Bios is basically a legacy system programmed in machine code whilst EFI will be programmed in C++ which is a much wider used language. It will allow for bios config to be done in an attractive windows kind of environment. It is a modular driver based architecture which will be easier to upgrade and debug. It will shorten boot time, it will provide full legacy support. It will be able to access more than 1mb of preboot ram.

in short it is kicking ass and m$ft are not going to support it yet even though the latest macintels already do.
