    EFI bios - the future

EFI the Extensible Firmware Interface, the replacement for the BIOS will not be supported by windows vista in the intitial release at least...

    ugh........................................

Bios is basically a legacy system programmed in machine code whilst EFI will be programmed in C++ which is a much wider used language. It will allow for bios config to be done in an attractive windows kind of environment. It is a modular driver based architecture which will be easier to upgrade and debug. It will shorten boot time, it will provide full legacy support. It will be able to access more than 1mb of preboot ram.

in short it is kicking ass and m$ft are not going to support it yet even though the latest macintels already do.

M$ pisses me off. Just when I start to soften on them (I like XP), they pull crap like this.

Oh well. I wouldn't mind running Linux. I can still get my games to work.

Re: EFI bios - the future

Hi I have been in computer business more then 35 year it means computer born right at the time i was working in electronic field and fist IBM XT base computer comes in the market and many other popular company such as Radio Shack started their brand Tandy the technology change and now every thing is faster and faster
assume 64 k and 128 k total memory on floppy disk then 5 MB hard disk 10 MB 20 MB means you had top of the line computer , from monochrome to CGA EGA then VGA monitor in the market the other side apple IIe Apple IIc in the market it keep growing and growing any one saw fist windows Microsoft made was win3.0 it was monochrome version
changing the topic just go to the new EFI boot, if some how your partition lost that has EFI you wont be able to boot from harddisk CD or any external Drive because small program read from efi boot partition and load in bios if the partition wont exist it means your computer useless unless you go this route and fix it i had customer brought hp all in one with windows error he try every thing but same error i think when win 10 upgrade performed it lost the efi boot or may be virus did that there is no way you can change efi boot in bios
i spend about 4 hours to figure out and posting this comments it will help any one has same issue find out one machine same brand with win 8 efi boot option in bios then clone that hard disk to yours, you must backup your file if important before you clone i use
clonezilla it is linux base you can try any other you use after you clone the disk new clone one you start the pc will boot then if you have any information on that hard disk from previous system go ahead and do complete factory restore and make one backup for your future or pay huge money to HP and other manufacture to get new hard disk with Image good luck *** Alvi

Asus ROG Ally X -RC72LA - changed hidden bios settings with 'Smokeless-UMAF', won't get past boot logo

Hi all, I've spent the past week digging through the forums and guides to try correct my foolish mistake of changing hidden settings while tinkering around, and to be honest my heads overloaded so I'm hoping you'll be able to help.

I used a tool called 'Smokeless-UMAF' to access usually hidden settings in the bios. I tweaked one or two 'safe' things but made the mistake of tweaking a lot of settings under 'USB/Thunderbolt Configurations' when I didn't know what they did. For...

Hi, I have a few of these & they came with a custom bios boot logo, no passwords etc.

2 x were brand new unused but with custom boot logo, 1 I installed Windows/ran updates then it bricked itself. 1 wouldn't get past the custom bios boot logo.

The third I loaded windows, took a backup of the bios chip, then tried to flash several different clean bios's via programmer which all caused it to not boot. I tried to reflash the original bios both using clip & desoldering but...

Bios partially corrupted somehow and now warm boot doesn't work which is critical
        by Neddsme
        Hie.
I own a Lenovo ideapad v310-15IKB with an i5 7th generation with only Intel graphics configuration.
Now the heart of the problem is that I don't know when or how it happened but I suddenly started getting distortion in the graphics output on the LCD. This basically meant a black screen full of flickering multicolored short horizontal lines. This would happen 30-60 minutes after booting and using it normally.
I run Windows 10 20H build so I thought it was just a Windows update issue or graphics driver outdated issue.
I managed to run Windows troubleshooting and...

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING - M.2_2 port not working correctly with SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD
        by DynaxSC
        Hi,

I have an really very weired issue with ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING.

Some NVME (PCIe) SSD's are not working correctly in the second M.2 socket. An example of it is the SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD.
Some other NVME (I have only smaller ones) disk do work without any problem, also SAMSUNG disks, eg an MZVPV128HDGM-0000.

The behaviour is also really very strange, i.e.:
        • The disk shows always up in BIOS - so it is recognized, so far so good
        • POST-ing with this disk with fresh Windows 24H2 installation (done in the M.2_1 socket) in the M.2_2 socket

Lenovo LOQ mdl 151RH8 bios Q: Can't get usb boot to list
        by Max029
I've searched and read Beginners guidelines and other sticky threads. This is just a simple bios question. If I may, I'm having trouble finding any help, including from lenovo tech support & forum, for how to get usb boot to list in boot options. I'm trying to run memtest86 so nothing as highfaluting as re-install, flash a bios, etc.

I've made usb boot enabled and secure boot is disabled. I can find no other option in bios ver LZCN34WW (the original bios). Would anyone here be familiar with LOQ or Legion bios versions & know what is going on?
