    Memory keeps going out

I have a Compaq CQ60-215DX Running Windows Vista. Also has AMD Athlon-x2 64bit and Nvidia Graphics card. Having problem with memory going out. I replaced it about a month ago and now has gone out again. Has anybody heard of this problem before. Also computer has a bad battery can this be the cause.

    Thanks
    Alan

By "memory going out" you mean dying RAM?

Check the RAM voltage regulator, it may be overvolting them.

I second this. Also check for bad caps on the motherboard.

CQ60 is a laptop, making bad caps unlikely.

I've seen a few HP laptops with AMD chips where the CPU memory controller is going bad. This usually results in one bad memory slot. If you put the "bad" memory in another computer, does it work? If so, try replacing the CPU, which contains the memory controller.

You were correct one memory slot is bad. Not sure replacing CPU is within my abilities. Works ok using one slot. Should I try to replace CPU or just leave like is.

is the CPU soldered on? Or in some sort of socket?

I would suggest that should be your next move, but somehow I get the feeling you're not comfortable or experienced with doing stuff like this...?

replacw the cpu. it sounds harder than it is... just make sure you have an empty egg carton to organize your screws.

this is also a good time to clean out the cooling system... they often get clogged with dust.

according to google images, it uses a socketed cpu.

I can't find the service manual on HP's site anymore, but you can download a copy here:

That gives you pretty good directions for how to disassemble and replace the CPU. I'd strongly advise you to label your screws, and not rely solely on the manual as I've found HP's manuals sometimes give incorrect screw sizes.

That CPU is no longer in production. eBay is probably the easiest way of finding a used pull.

Are there any new CPU's that will work in this motherboard.

Hello, for almost a year i been trying to make something that seems impossible, or my testing software is lying to me and it works only i can't see that.
I been trying to mod a memory on radeon hd7790 or 260x from 2 to 4 gb, but it doesn't seems to be as simple as i first thought.
In theory 2 workstation graphic cards using the same graphical processor have 4gb of memory firepro w4300 has 4 256x32b layout and W5100 has 8x 128x16b layout all use gddr5 memory and internals of the bioses seems to be very similar so i was trying to wing it , but so far it seems either tserver can't show...
