Re: iMACs
Actually, scrap that idea. I'll spend some extra cash and get a 24" Imac to replace my main rig. I'll probably go for the C2D version and not the i3 or i5 based because they cost so much.Don't find love, let love find you. Re: iMACs
Okay, ended up opting for a 24" iMac C2D 2.8GHz running on Lion 10.7.2 64 bit. Yes it did cost a fair share more, but it replaced my main desktopDon't find love, let love find you. That's why its called falling in love, because you don't force yourself to fall, you just fall. - AnonymousComment

Re: iMACs
I have a question in regards to the OS. My 24" C2D iMac is running on Snow Leopard right now with 2GB RAM. Included in the sale was an OSX Lion install disc worth $32 or whatever it was. Anyway, I read up on the net and the minimum RAM requirement for Lion was 2GB. Seeing as I have 2GB now, that's butting it real close. Do you guys think I should upgrade to 4GB RAM for Lion?Don't find love, let love find you. Re: iMACs
i'd say try it with lion, and if it runs well, keep it that way.
i personally like snow leopard than then lion, but that is just from playing with both at in the mac section of my local best buy. Lion is to much like iphone OS IMHO (is fisher-price certified?)sigpic

Re: iMACs
True that one. Asus has the eeepc desktop... but it hasn't got the finesse or style of an imac. I've noticed something though... imacs seem to be resold as second hand goods by rich people... I picked my $700 imac 24" off a couple living next to the ocean in a ginormous house with a Lexus in the driveway. My G5 came from a family living in a high class suburb as well. The 20" iMac that I was going to buy earlier for peanuts was also in a high class suburb... next to the beach.Don't find love, let love find you. Re: iMACs
Okay.... so I also bought that $150 odd iMac 20" ALU with a "dead" HDD. Turns out it wasn't dead... and it wasn't clicking either. Someone just forgot to install an OS :S

by reformattI thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.
As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.
So, the most common reason an iMac comes across my bench is because it's either ridiculously slow, or it fails to boot at all. The most...12-18-2024, 10:34 PM -
by CapLeakerI've got a bunch of Poly VVX-250 VOIP phones that work fine as kind as long as they are plugged into the wall wart. Recently I got around to install a couple of TP-Link 5 port POE switches that are added to the existing plain Jane 24 port unmanaged switch. Great!!! Finally I am able to ditch the wall warts from these phones making more space on the desk, plus I am gaining some badly needed power outlets. So I thought.
Plugged in the first VVX-250 into the POE switch, booted up no problem. Plugged in the other Poly phones and they start to boot anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds,...11-25-2023, 10:46 AM -
by tom.tomHello,
I've recently got two 2009 iMacs (820-2733-A) with the video issue I have never come across before. The symptoms are as described briefly in the topic:- both boot with chime and load the OS (Live Linux from USB),
- four LEDs are on,
- the LCDs get the backlight, but no video data (black screen with just the backlight),
- no video on the external monitor,
- GPUs are 100% OK,
- LCDs and LVDS cables are 100% OK.
How do I know the listed components are ok - have working 2009 iMac C2D to exchange the components with.
I suspect motherboards, but two iMacs with... -
by xnRSI got an old AM2 board with 3300uf 6.3v badcaps(all). So I want to change them with poly ones. Can you give me advice which capacity should I use ? I saw on one russian forum(rom.by) that capacity of poly should be around third of current leaky caps, but I'm not sure.

by BlagHi all, I've got a 1994 Japanese Panasonic 3DO with 2 leaking caps. Since all the caps are now 25 years old I decided to swap them all before more of them start to leak.
To reduce the danger of another leakage in the future I decided to swap every possible cap with a poly cap.
Has anyone here done that already and give me some hints?
I found a "fitting" (voltage, uF and measurements) poly cap for all but 3 caps. The largest cap is a 6800 uF 25v cap, since there aren't any 6800er polys I'll get a high quality electrolyte one with a higher temp rating. The...10-26-2019, 07:59 PM - Loading...
