32 bit card in 64 bit slot=power fault?

I've been fixing up an old Proliant DL380 G3 to use as my new security DVR.

The problem is, my DVR card causes the system to say "power fault detected in PCI slot 2". The card has both notches, so I figured it would work on 3.3v PCI-X. Guess I was wrong.

If anyone can find me a 3.3v compatible DVR card, I'd be eternally grateful. Otherwise I'll need to sell this system at a loss. I have about $250 into it. I installed 6 brand new 73GB 15k RPM hard drives and a new cache battery module. It runs great, but I can't use it unless I can find a compatible card.

    What is the card?
    .
The 'words' for the spec card you are looking for:
    PCI v2.1 is 3.3v and 5v compatible.
    PCI v2.3 is 3.3v only.
    .
PCI v2.1 is sometimes called 'universal'.
If it's v2.1 specification compliant it should work with either voltage.

Just a generic Fusion 878A based card with 8 inputs. I looked at the data sheet, and the 878a is 5 volts. The 23881 on the other hand is 3.3v. I just bought a card with one of those chips, but the seller just told me that it doesn't work with Ubuntu. I just can't win.

HP says the mobo is PCI v2.2 compliant.
        Should work with either voltage.

Perhaps the problem is the mobo slot won't kick-down to 32-bits and/or 33MHz to accommodate the card.
HP might do something weird like that on a server.

Check the BIOS for slot related settings.

The thing is, there were no voltage conversion circuits on the card. So it wouldn't have enough voltage to operate regardless. The 878a chip is 5v only.

Slots 2 and 3 are on the same PCI-X bus so if you have cards in both of those slots the two cards will have to be capable of operating at the same MHz and #-bits to work at the same time.

They don't convert the voltage on the card.
That spec PCI-X slot has both 3.3v and 5v pins available from the slot.

I vaguely remember [not from here] someone having the same trouble running a 32-bit/33MHz card in one of those servers before only that time it was a RAID card.

BTW: The 3.3v and 5v they speak of is the signaling voltage, not the card power voltage.

I guess I will just sell the server, since I just got refunded for the new card I was going to try. Really a bummer, because I wanted a DVR with fast hot swap drives :-(

I'm gonna be so mad if I can't get back what I put into it. I've been losing money like crazy on little things like this the past few months.

You could try the HDHomeRun route. No slot needed.
Depends on what you are trying to do exactly.

Just looking for a good real time, networked 8 channel security DVR that doesn't cost more than my whole server rack is worth basically.

Now that I think about it, I probably should have tried that other card anyway. So what if I would have had to use Windows on it.

ESR meter came to the rescue again today with a PLC I/O card fault

I have been having a fun time at work with two pieces of equipment that had shorted components or shorted component cables to machine frame
I would check what my multi meter was telling me about how many ohms I getting with the multi meter was telling versus the ESR was telling me about weather or not it really was a short to machine ground or not

One note at first we thought that it might be a bad I/O card or a malfunction PLC including me as well but I thought I would try and see if removing the I/O cables would make a difference or not and this time it did make a difference...

                          Graphics Card mounting frame
                          by Kemer
Hello, I removed the graphics card from my laptop and I want to heat it in the oven. What I want to ask is, is it okay to heat the card without removing the metal mounting frame on it?

As you can see in the photo, there is a plastic (black) gasket between the metal frame and the card. It sticks the frame tightly to the card.

I previously removed the metal frame while heating it, but it is quite difficult to separate it from the surface it is attached to. If there is no problem, I do not want to remove it.

What worries me right now is the possibility that...
