    LCD Monitor replace fuse

    Hi Everyone,

I'm sure this is a no brainer but we have a NEC Multisync V461 that we paid over $3,200 usd for and it fell off the wall. When my son and I opened the back up we noticed that the fuse was blown. No power at all. How in the world do you remove the fuse for replacement as it has the 2 end caps with the really thin wire and I'm afraid of breaking the wires?

    Thanks,
    Cpd

If you have fuse like on the left side of the picture, most of the time you have to use soldering iron to remove it from pcb and replace it. If it is like on the right side of the picture it should be mounted in a clip.
    Hopefully it helps.

Thanks so much. Is there a way I can bypass the fuse? What do you think the charge for something like that is??

Fuses are there for a reason... to protect your equipment from further damage and to prevent fires and or/bodily injury from a short. Usually when a fuse blows, there is something else wrong that has caused the fuse to blow. Never, ever bypass a fuse lest you risk even more damage to your set.

Also, if the TV was professoinally installed on the wall you should be going after the installer for damages rather than try and fool around with the set yourself. You might just find yourself getting a free TV if they didn't do the job right!

I don't think there's any way to avoid doing some soldering.

Electronic parts houses, Radio Shack, and car parts stores sell inline fuse holders with wires on the ends that can be soldered in where the original fuse's leads went, but it's possible the fuse holder's wire leads will be too thick for the holes in the circuit board. I think these holders almost always require a fuse 1.25" long.

There are fuse holder clips that can be soldered in place of the original fuse, but most require 2 holes at each end, which many circuit boards already have, even when they come with a soldered-in fuse:

To help hold the clips in place during soldering, I insert an old fuse (because soldering can melt a good fuse)

              Here's the update.

A friend of mine works on tube amps so when he took his meter to it the fuse had not been blown - it is a ceramic fuse. It had power but he said something about it being intermittent and the set would not light up. That's all he could decipher and believe it or not in NYC (outside) it's hard to find people who work on these sets. Guess it's off to the recycling plant for this beauty.

              Thanks everyone!

Ebay it for parts... or come leave it at my local recycling center... I will be happy to try and fix it up.
