WinXP update broke networking?

    WinXP update broke networking?

    After an automatic update on one of my XP machines today, I can no longer connect to my NAS. I still have internet access, and can ping the server, but when trying to map the drive, it says "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation". If I click on a drive that was already mapped, it says "The connection has not been restored". Anybody else run into this yet? Apparently it's been happening on my Sister's computer too.

    What updates have you installed?
    Is your sister's PC trying to connect to the same NAS? Have you rebooted the NAS?

      What i would do is use the restore feature to restore to the point where you were before the updates. Then install them one at a time until you find the one causing the problem. When you know which one is the problem you can start searching the internet for possible solutions or ask here again. I haven't encountered it myself so i don't know what might cause it.

        The NAS is on a static IP. My Windows 7 machines are working fine still.

        Here are the updates that installed today:



        One thing I just found out, is that iTunes can still access the shared library on my Win7 machine, so I know it's just limited to mapping a drive.

          Turn all off and restart one at a time. Router/switch then systems. Usually clears the hiccup.

            Could be the arp cache has the wrong entry. Doing what Toasty says above will clear out the arp cache.
