Email backup without being able to boot the OS

How do I backup the Outlook Express email from an old Windows XP installation, without being able to boot it?

Windows developed some error that will not allow me to boot the OS. I tried the "repair" installation. That didn't work. No surprise there. There were no viruses found on the drive either.

I've since backed up the contents of the drive, formatted it, and reinstalled. I still have the contents on my test computer so I can restore their data, etc. It's just that all the OE backups I've done have been through Outlook Express in some form or another (safe mode).

I know about the data files, but I think there are some registry settings or some other crap that needs to be done. Oh and I need the address book too.

I'd look it up myself, but honestly I haven't got the time. When I do a search all I get is the MS instructions (backup through OE) or someone wanting to sell me a program to do it, which is also not going to work. If someone wants to help me out here it will be appreciated.

The accounts can be retrieved by sifting through the registry, don't think you can get the passwords though.
    The mail should be in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\<GUID>\Microsoft\Outlook Express\*.dbx the address book should be C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\*.wab

Do yourself a favour and migrate this person to Thunderbird or Windows Live Mail.

Tip, run Outlook Express first to generate the .dbx and .wab files, then just overwrite them with the ones from your backup. Should pick everything straight up.

      Thanks a lot!

I'd like to migrate them to Thunderbird, but somehow I doubt they'd go for it. People around here seem to be stubborn and set in their ways.

Don't ask them, just do it.
If they're asking you to repair their PC and value your expertise, they'll listen when you tell them to use Thunderbird.

better idea- have them use imap instead of pop... that way, all you lose is sent mail... your inbox stays online.

Yes, that's a good idea ratdude. Doesn't always save address books or calendars though.

I usually set it up to leave things on the server for a certain time, usually 30 days. Problem is I didn't set it up.

Nintendo Switch Oled HEG-001: Second-Stage Boot Failure
                by privato89
                Hello everyone,

I'm facing an issue with a HEG-001 motherboard that is unable to complete the Second-Stage Boot. I'd like to start directly with my conclusion, which is the decision to replace the MAX77621AEWI chip, and understand if it could be a correct evaluation.

Before I dive into the process that led me to this decision, I want to mention that I have a fully equipped lab where I can perform any kind of tests.

                Let's begin:

Following some guides online, I tried to understand how the Boot phase of the Nintendo Switch works, and what are the...

Xiaomi router freezes at boot after re-capping
                by hinisa
I'm using Xiaomi Router 4A gigabit edition as wireless repeater. It worked fine for 2 years or so, but last week, wireless started to disappear.

When I unplug/replug the power, it was working fine for a day/half a day or so until it freezes again.

After testing with different power supply adapters and concluding it wasn't the issue I finally opened the case and this was the situation:

Anyway I proceed to clean up the mess and replace all caps but unfortunately it made the situation worse. Now router can't even boot, either it freezes during...

Samsung un82ru88000f - Boot loop sort of but can correct with taping of LVDS ribbon
                by NolesFan
Hello all... TV started boot looping. Opened the back panel and tried to isolate the problem. Just PSB no boot loop. PSB and MB no boot loop. Plug in the LVDS from panel to MB and boot looping starts up. It doesnt matter of order that I plug the LVDS ribbons back in, only 1 and no boot loop but as soon as 2nd one plugs in boot looping. I then noticed a flicker on the screen when I was closing the clip on the harness to the LVDS. Shut the lights off so I can see better, and I noticed as i slowly close it, I will get a picture, but as soon as it clips in, I lose picture and booting happens. So I...
