    Sempron 2600+ cant handle movies?

One of my computers is a socket a/462 sempron 2600+ 1.83ghz. I seeks that it cant handle youtube or other online movies like hulu. Youtube movies play fine small, but it lags and the audio isnt in sync when its full screen.
Why cant i watch this stuff without lagging? Are there settings i can change or what?

    Specs: msi motherboard
Hp case (used to have p4 mobo)
    200w psu
    Amd sempron 2600+ 1.83ghz sozket a/462 cpu...
    512mb pc3200
    40gb ide seagate
    Dvdrom.

Would overclocking help this thing out?

Re: Sempron 2600+ cant handle movies?

For full-screen movies, the video card might have more of an impact than the CPU. I have an Athlon 2600+ system that plays full-screen flash movies just fine. Video card in that case is a 256MB GeForce FX5200. It can't handle the 720p youtube streams and the like, however. I'd also try updating to the latest Flash player. In my experience, some versions have playback issues. Updating to the latest video card driver can't hurt either.

Finally, 512MB is a bit on the low side for XP (I'm assuming XP here), with services such as firewall and antivirus. Nevermind how much memory browsers take up these days. 512 is doable, but 1GB gives you much more wiggle room.

Re: Sempron 2600+ cant handle movies?

Too behind on this CPU and GPU, ditto to mainboard. AGP can't handle much bandwith associated with 720p and 1080 playback.

I have a E2200 in one PC choking on the web flash if too heavy.

          Cheers, Wizard

no, just understand the limits of your hardware. people buy the new stuff for a reason. tht doesn't mean your stuff is worthless, just that it has limits.

My computer has problems with movies and u-tube also. But then I am running a VooDoo 3 with 64 meg of memory. Throw it away???? No way. Does just fine for email and forum browsing. (I did have a fancy PCI-e video card, but it blew out the its memory. So I grabbed old dependable!)

Our family PC Is a Skt. A Athlon XP 2500, 1GB RAM, 80GB WD SATA HDD, FX5200, ASUS A7V600-X Mobo, 450W K-Mex PSU. It does fine for my parents and brother's use (emails, typing documents, some light web browsing and the occasional youtube video.

I agree with yyonline about the RAM. You're overdue for an upgrade. 1GB is the bare minimum for any PC. I refuse to even sell a used PC if it has any less than 1GB RAM and at work, If any PC come to us with 512MB of RAM or less (1GB or less for windows 7 or vistrash), the customer doesn't get a choice about upgrading it. We upgrade it to 1GB for XP or 2GB for vistrash or 7 whether they like it or not.

Not correct. That's likely because you don't have at least 4 Mb internet service.

Well just as a comparison, I have a PC with a 2.8 GHz P4, 512MB of RAM, and Intel Extreme Graphics 2. YouTube @ 720p doesn't always play nice for me either - usually depends on the movies. Some 720p movies play just fine, but others stutter a lot. Turning off captions does help it somewhat.
As far as regular 720p videos (WMV, AVI, etc.), I have no problem running them, and CPU utilization is around 40-70% with WMP.

All in all, Flash is very demanding on resources. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it on that computer. You should be able to watch YouTube @ 480p, though.

Not sure if this makes a difference, but I'm using IE 6. As you might know, YouTube has already dropped support for IE 6 - but that's actually good. As of last month or so, YouTube has put up a special, light-weight version for outdated browsers such as mine. This light-weight version doesn't have all of the little features, but all of the basic stuff work just fine - in fact almost as good as 3-4 years ago (when things were slightly less bloated). But the most important thing is that with this light-weight version, YouTube loads much faster and runs better too. Even my 866 MHz P3 (secondary PC) has less trouble running YouTube now.

Re: Sempron 2600+ cant handle movies?

shovenose sorry if my last few comments were short and rude. I'm just telling you from experience - it's not worth it battling with these Sempron pieces of shit. I owned a Sempron laptop since 2005 and used it for years. It has been, since the day I bought it, a slow piece of shit.

Old/slow computers are good for light web browsing (as in email, forums) but useless for any sort of heavy flash-based web usage (YouTube, playlist.com, Pandora, Hulu, etc.) or modern media playback (HD video).

There is no point in bitching about how CPU intensive things are these days. That's just the way things are. Nobody is forcing you to use flash-based websites and watch HD video - you could still run Windows 2000 if your heart desired.

My suggestion to you: sell off your 13 systems and use the proceeds to build a respectable rig. AMD offers the most bang for your buck (my friend built a killer Phenom rig a few months ago) but any of the faster Core 2 Duos (E7xxx +) will also do a great job if you are more of an Intel guy like myself. Put it in a nice case with a quality PSU, a decent motherboard, ample storage, and 4GB+ of RAM, and you will have yourself one hell of a system.

I never said it requires it, just that all this heavy duty flash stuff runs much better on newer PC's. Way smoother framerates.

Shameless plug here... If you're looking for a cheap upgrade, I have a Barton core Athlon 2800+/333 chip sitting on the workbench. It's been there for 2+ years, I can't seem to give the thing away. It's yours for the price of shipping if you want it; drop me a PM if you're interested. Only catch is that I'm not sure it still works, as I have no Socket A board to test it in. It worked when I pulled it, though.

CPUs NEVER fail unless they get hit by lightning or something else kills them.

I didn't think windows 7 would even let you install it on a system that old. Personally, I think you should go back to XP on that system. I still use XP on all my PCs, even the one in my signature.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards
