    screen resoltion/with windows OS

with the windows operating system, If the screen resolution on the PC is set to some setting that a monitor cannot support is there a way to get the PC to the 800x600 or some setting that the monitor will support so the monitor will show something on the screen ,other than signal out of range?

There should be something like virtual resolution, where it will make the screen itself that random resolution you want, but display it imposed on the monitor's native res. eg, 1650x1050 on a 1024x768 monitor. it forces a scroll, but at least you get it.

if you are talking about forcing the resolution, try powerstrip

restart computer and press F8 right before windows loads to load boot menu and then select VGA mode.

I had a monitor hooked up to this PC that was very high resolution something like
1680x1080???something,and did not change it when i shut down the computer, for some reasion now its must be stuck there, and will not let a lower resolution 19" square monitor show up.
