Not a lot of writing on it

It posts but I dont seem to be able to do much in the bios to get it to run an OS. It was in an office network
I'd like to use it in a build can anyone point me to user manual bios etc?

you have to do better than that.
    i assume it's trying to net-boot.
try removing the battery for a while.

and most foto's that actually show some text or numbers on this thing.

Experiment. Keep shorting two pins at a time and when it turns on you'll have the power pins. Plug in the HDD LED while it's on, etc...

They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

Screwdriver did that... and away it went.I didnt really want to because I dont know what I might stuff up but hey....pins 2 and 3 from the top left are the PWR the rest will be easy with a little LED test rig
Now to see what I can do to get it to boot into WinDoze.. The bios is a very strange affair...

Not found in any manual but in a forum

Hi, just like you I purchased two of these motherboards and I have very good news for you. Above the blue PRIMARY IDE ATA connector is a set of 18 pins labeled PB/LED P5 and pin 1 is labeled.

                      17 15 13 11 9 7 5 3 1
                      . . . . . . . . .
                      . . . . . . . .
                      18 16 14 12 10 8 6 4 2

                      Pins 1 and 3 = HD LED
                      Pins 2 and 4 = POWER LED
                      Pins 6 and 8 = POWER SWITCH
                      Pin 14 has no pin

EVEREST says the board is a COMPAQ

I reckon its one of these Compaq 283983-001 Intel 845 Socket 478

And it does run with either a Celeron or a P4

Now I have decided to use it I get a error 512 message on boot no case fan connected press F1 to start Well it used to go away when i hooked up a fan but now there are NO VOLTS on the connector
Have I shorted something? there appears to be NO WAY to disable this in the bios.

That looks like an evo D510 board.

If I recall...and it's been a long while since I've seen one of those... It uses a voltage controlled fan. In other words, you might need a 5000rpm fan the bios steps down to half speed for normal use. Often times, the big box machines get really fussy if you change the CPU fan to something unexpected. Just a thought.

Thanks. I had it running before using a 775 CPU fan. Now that doesnt work . Truly frustrating seems no way to bypass it in the bios either

I'd guess chassis fan would be some sort of case fan, not the CPU fan. If my memory is correct, the D510 has a 92mm rear fan. Make sure the fan you're hooking up has the 3-wire connector. Some boards use the rpm sensor wire to detect the presence of a fan, others use the resistance on the fan header.
