I recently bought a Compaq 4110 8 Port PS/2 KVM Switch with cables.
I expected a simple mechanical switch that would hook up multiple boxes to a single keyboard mouse and monitor. Sort of like a rotary switch, think car headlight switch where you would select the box you wanted and then power up that box.
Since I have some older machines that may not support USB keyboards and mice, I was keen on the PS/2 hookup.
The actual switch turns out to be quite a sophisticated electronic device. You can power up all eight computers and toggle between them using the switch. You use the keyboard to toggle between the boxes. The manual suggests max resolution of 1024x768.
I have not used anything like this before. Does anyone have any experience of these devices and opinions about them. Any mistakes to avoid? Thanks for the input.
