Alright, if that's the case, I'll just tell my friend to re-install the original 1440 x 900 LCD. What are the benefits of a glossy screen anyway?

glossy screen suck but they make it look like its brighter and cooler in low light. but it sucks for like 12 hours of the day haha. they're just a gimmick. unless its true glass, its pretty lame. go matte. and you'll want something you can see, since you have a quadro nvs gfx chip.

i'd sell my 1000HEb but wrong continent and it needs a new screen. would have fixed but i bought my dell latude instead... i think it was a better deal since the latitude is more robust and less likely to break... all it needs is a new battery and bt module (and more ram)... i would go with the used laptop. better quality.

LOL isn't that the model with a 9 inch screen like the Toshiba NB100 I have now? My new laptop was supposed to solve the small screen issue. LOL.

I'll be working in environments with lots of overhead lights... and of course outdoors in the sun. The glossy screen reflects all this light right?

you're really better off with matte screen then. lol you'd be blind everytime you looked at your screen if it was glossy.

And so i was given a Dell Latitude D400 from my aunty today. 1GB RAM and 1.8GHz Intel Pentium M CPU. It looks like a decent unit to me... the battery still holds charge.

Ratdude has this unit if I'm correct...

Unfortunately... YES. But if you do get glossy there is some anti-glare foil thing that you can put on it and make it, well, less glossy.

We have a few of those floating around the department here. We pulled them all out of active service a while back due to age/speed. IIRC they still use SDRAM instead of DDR? I could be wrong, though.

Okay, so I took it out of the bag and tested it today. It came with a Belkin USB wireless G adapter, and I can understand why. My aunty hasn't installed any drivers for this thing!

After installing all the drivers, everything works perfectly. Physical condition is an A++. Albeit for the two missing HDD screws... now I have to eBay for them.
