I opened up the very very back compartment of the Dell laptop bag it came in and I found a Dell external DVD burner and floppy drive for this unit.

oh well... i have an external dvd dl burner i use with it... i keep it on my port replicator.

find two off a junker. they are m3 screws (cd/floppy thread). or just don't bump the caddy too hard

I found one screw off my Inspiron 4000 HDD caddy. Now I need another. Where can I find screws dammit?

And now for the pics. As the saying goes... pictures or else it didn't happen. hehehehe.

This has to be the cleanest second hand laptop I've ever owned. The exterior condition is like brand new with not a single scratch or dent. The only marks of use is the ever so slightly worn keyboard keys.

I am really satisfied with this laptop.

No dead pixels either.



Yes, I know it's Windows Vista but I'm still happy.

I also pose another question... since I have Windows Vista home basic (original version w/no service pack) on this D400, should I install service pack 1 or not? Is that going to hinder the performance with 1GB of RAM (Vista HB minimum is 512MB RAM).

Windows 7 Starter has a crapload of limitations. Get at least Home Premium if you want to be satisfied.

But my D400 only has a 64MB Intel Extreme graphics adapter... it won't be able to meet the MSR of Home premium.

LOL how did you pick out they were Korean from that pic?

The band is SNSD (So Nyuh Shi Dae) or "Girl's Generation" in plain translated english.

Anyway, they've been my favourite band for ages. I have the new photo book and CDs, DVDs and whatnot from them. I'm a die hard fan of SNSD.

lol snsd, my friend's obsessed with them. if you don't want to run linux, i would just put XP on it. win7 is actually okay for it, it runs on a lot of netbooks, but xp was probably the original os right?

yours must be newer than mine, as it has a pentium m sticker, not a centrino sticker.

I would not run Vista with out ALL of the security updates. Including SP1 and 2.

I have a whole bin of Dell laptop screws, but I don't think it'd be worth it for me to send you one screw

I don't think Centrino or *Pentium M* mean anything because Centrino is defined as having an Intel CPU + an Intel wireless card. In this case it's a 1.8Ghz Pentium M CPU and an Intel 2200BG wireless card.

As for Vista, I'm getting the service packs for them right this second.

WRONG!

i meant MINE had a pentium m sticker... not yours.

it really makes no difference... yours has the intel g option for the wifi, mine had the cheaper broadcom g option... that must be it. no functional difference other than original price and sticker.
