    Ancient capacitor?

Can anyone identify, or give me any info about this? It's from a 1930s/40s era adding machine.

It's just an old wound aluminum foil paper+wax capacitor.
Details would be printed on the other side of it. I would unscrew the mount and look for the part's value and voltage rating. It's surely a dud given the age.
I would guess it's used to prevent some switch contacts from arcing. Or a small motor cap?

Thanks, I'll check the other side. There is a small motor, and under that, what looks like another motor underneath, perpendicular to it. Or maybe it's some kind of gear box…

Where the power cable comes in there's a switch with what looks kinda like (from my vague memory) ignition points from a distributor. Pressing those together will power the 1st motor. Underneath, there's another smaller set of “points” that will power the other motor, if the 1st set is closed. I found if I rotate a lever on the side, it closes the 1st set, and if I plug it in, the assembly on the side of the machine will rotate once, which opens the points back up and shuts it back off.

I have no clue what all might be wrong with it, but am curious what, if anything would change if I replace that cap, though I don't expect it to fix it.

I'd be happy to upload more pics if anyone would like to see them. It's a fascinating machine, and to me a bit mind boggling how complex it is with all the levers.

My favorite part is that inside the bottom cover a technician named C. Emmerich scratched in the details of a repair he did on it on 6/27/52. 3 hours of labor + parts, totaling $12.15. Replaced bushings, springs cleaned and oiled.

Unfortunately, those markings in the picture are the only thing on the capacitor.

Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

            Description:
During maintenance on an RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition, I found a capacitor lying on my desk after reassembly.
I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.

            Procedure performed:
            - Removed backplate
            - Cleaned heatsink and PCB with isopropyl alcohol + soft ESD brush
            - Reapplied thermal compound
            - Reassembled card

            Observed behavior after reassembly:
            - GPU powers on and operates normally under...

Help to identify a laptop mainboard SMD capacitor LA-9982P
            by BlackBurn
            Hello everyone,

I have an Dell Inspiron 15 3537 laptop mainboard (LA-9982P Rev. 3.0 (A02)) with a blown SMD capacitor as shown in the attached images. However, there is no printed specifications near the capacitor or a codename for the capacitor to identify the specification of the capacitor to replace it. I wonder how to identify the capacitor since the mainboard schematics are also useless as the capacitors are not named on the board. Any help would be highly appreciated.

            Thank You. Stay Safe.

Dick Smith Q-1760 linear power supply filter capacitor question
            by Agent24
I have acquired a used Dick Smith Q-1760 power supply - although the OEM is Manson Industrial
It has at least one problem.

The voltage control potentiometer VR2, 50K is faulty - going high resistance / open circuit in the CCW end and leading to the output voltage jumping around.
I have already ordered a replacement potentiometer, so that's not an issue.

Now, I want to replace all three electrolytics on the PCB as they are CapXon and I don't trust them so much, I will replace them with something better while I've got the thing apart anyway.
            All are CapXon...

If I replace with inferior capacitor, Is it No harm to other IC components at all?
            by chth96
I replaced some capacitor which is located on optical pickup pcb which is shown in the table below(PCB #2).Because it have been out of order.
Now,It works very well,But I just have found that all caps (6svpc100my and other part number as well) ,which is shown in the table below, has ultra-high ripple current spec.
It is not able to obtain any capacitor which can be a substitute for this ultra-high ripple current nichicon capacitor.
So I replaced it with samxon and rubycon's general capacitor(GP,YXA series).
I know that these capacitor will not last as long as nichicon capacitor...

How can I test non-polarized capacitor?
            by chth96
I desoldered samwha NF capacitor(50v 5.6uf) from PCB circuit of 29inch CRT TV which have symptoms of no display after I heard sound of inrush of current to TV whenever I switch on this television.
I measured ESR value of this non-polarized capacitor(samwha NF capacitor 50v 5.6uf) by means of MESR-100 ESR meter and It displayed 0.3 ohm

And When I measured its capacitance with digital multimeter and LCR-T4 Mega328 meter, It displayed 10uf from DMM and 8uf from LCR-T4 meter.
I found catalogue of samwha capacitor(samwha-catalogue_3.pdf file), which is attached to this thread,...
