    Questions about sizes and voltage

I'm gonna recap my ol' xbox 360 mobo however i'm a bit curious about the caps in your store.

These are the caps i need..

    Rubycon 1500uF 16v MCZ
    Rubycon 820uF 6.3v MFZ
    Nichicon 220uF 10v HE(M)

Well i see you got the 1500uF one, however the 820uF you got is 'MCZ' while i need 'MFZ', is there any difference between them? I am by no means an expert in the field and the only difference i could find is that the 'MCZ' is 12mm in height and 'MFZ' is 24mm in height..

I'm also curious if it would be safe (would it even work?) to use a Rubycon 220uF 16v YXA instead of a Nichicon 220uF 10v HE(M)?

    Thanks in advance!

The Rubycon MFZ series is an ultra low ESR series and also a 105 degree cap. Yes it should be ok to use the MCZ series in place of the MFZ. The main thing is that the size fits, both physically and in specs to where it will be placed. It is OK to replace one with a different cap that is say a little smaller or longer or wider or thinner as long as it does not interfer with the other components in the device. Both MFZ and MCZ are low ESR caps so they can be interchanged.

I have tried looking up the series and it seems to be hard to find info on. I have found very few sizes in the MFZ series so it might be a custom order size.

Yes it is OK. The 220uF is what is really important. The 10v part is kinda like a circuit breaker. that is the max amount of load it can handle before it blows. So it is safe to put in a 12 or 14 or 16 volt in place of a 10v, but you should try never to go down to say a 6.3v cap. It is best to try to always try to stay at the same volt or a little higher.

Seeing as everything is fine I'm going to place my order right away then, thanks for your answer!

Re: Questions about sizes and voltage

Nichicon HE is a low ESR cap.

        HE Specs for 10V 220uF:
        Impendence (ESR): .22 ohms
        Ripple Current: 340 mA

When looking for a replacement, you want to find another cap with similar or better specs. Lower ESR is better, Higher ripple is better.

Rubycon YXA is a good cap, but it is not a low ESR cap. So, it may not be reliable in the application you will use it. Rubycon YXA has a ripple current of 220 (worse than the HE). ESR is not even listed in the YXA data sheet as it is not a low ESR cap.

Going from 10V to 16V is not an issue, as this is a voltage limit if you will. However, going from a Low ESR cap to a standard cap may be a problem. For the replacement for the HE, I would be looking at Rubycon YXG, ZL; Panasonic FC; Samxon GT.

I found a local retailer that sells Sanyo 10ME220WX with the specs
          Voltage: 10 V dc
          Capacity: 220 uF
          Ripple Current: 0.405 A @ 100 kHz 105°C
          ESR/Impedance: 0.13 Ω @ 100 kHz

Would it be better going with those rather than the Rubycon YXA then?

Based on my basic knowledge, yes, I'd be more comfortable using the Sanyo WX caps than the YXA. The WX is even lower ESR and higher ripple than HE, so it will be an upgrade.

sorry, missed that about the YXA part.. yyonline is right.. those are regular caps. like he said best to go with low esr and higher ripple ones. cant believe i missed that..

No problem, no damage done and everyone makes mistakes so it's ok.

Anyway thank you both for your help, much appreciated!

ASUS P5A and P2B-S recapping. Searching old datasheets.

                  Hi,

I'd like to recap some of my old mainboards (they are from 1998) before switching them on again for the first time after many years in storage. All caps still look good from the outside.
                  There are three mainboards:
                  - ASUS P5A rev 1.04
                  - ASUS P2B-S rev 1.03 "Rubycon"
                  - ASUS P2B-S rev 1.03 "Chemi-Con"

If you are interested in their specs, The Retro Web has pages for the P5A and the P2B-S.

They all have many 1000uF 6.3V 105°C capacitors. But there are some differences I cannot figure out.

Bricked HP Probook 450 G7 Bios questions
                  by studdy05
Hp Probook 450 G7 s# SCD0348W35 had a locked BIOS. Bought BIOS and EC chips off Ebay that were supposed to match this machine - the 450 G7. Flashed in the BIOS on chip i bought using a CH341. BIOS unlocked next boot. Some error to contact HP. Entered BIOS and reset to system defaults and rebooted. Machine worked fine but every cold boot the contact HP message popped and everything else worked as fine. Assumed the error was from EC chip not matching BIOS that i just flashed in. So i flashed in the EC that was supposed to match from the EBay chip i bought and instant brick.

                  Ive got...

Questions About USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 and USB4 Designs: Type-A vs Type-C, MUX Requirem
                  by electronx
                  Hi everyone,

I’m currently learning about the USB protocol and designing a project, but I’ve encountered a few questions that I couldn’t find clear answers to. I’d really appreciate your input!

                  1. USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 with SuperSpeed Type-A Connector
According to the USB 3.2 specification, it states that USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 can support a SuperSpeed Type-A connector. This raises a question:

If we use a SuperSpeed Type-A connector, the system would only utilize 1 lane for data transfer, leaving 1 lane from the host unused. Is this configuration valid,...

                  Picking caps for Antec SU-380
                  by ajdrenter
In my search for a proper 5v heavy ATX power supply, I selected an old Antec SU-380 that I've had in storage for a long time. Opening the power supply reveals a couple bulged capacitors. I removed all the caps and made a map for myself. I found the datasheet for the PCE TUR series in this thread:
                  https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14159
It says these are general purpose, so I assume I can replace them with any general purpose capacitors, but I don't really know anything about power supply circuits or reading capacitor datasheets. Despite this, I've been shopping for replacements:...

Need Help Identifying Parts on a crossover and a few other newbie questions
                  by UL161
Hi I am trying to refurbish this crossover with some higher quality poly-caps/parts... The speaker is a in-wall Polk 65-RT... Key questions I have are:

                  1) What in the world is the yellow part on the board (label is MET 1.0J 100V)?... Should I even consider replacing it?
                  2) The 470uF cap.... Does anyone know have a suggestion as to where I can find a reasonable audio quality polycap near that value? (or at least 3 160s or the like?) { I don't want to spend $70 just to replace this one if I can) (maybe even someone looking at this circuit could even tell if this cap is important...
