I see this value varies within several 3300uf caps. Do you want that number low as possible? It's very high on polymer caps.

Re: Do I want Ripple Current high or low?
for capacitors, it refers to the maximum ripple current handling capacity before the capacitor goes kaput really fast. therefore, the higher the ripple current handling capacity rating, the better. there is no limit.aim for the sky. hope that clarifies it.

Re: Do I want Ripple Current high or low?
So is there overhead with this rating? Like near a computer processor, if you replaced a capacitor with the same voltage and capacitance but went lower on ripple rating, would it be an issue? I assume it would be more of an issue in a power supply secondary side?--------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Do I want Ripple Current high or low?
Well, a MB has DC-DC converters on it, basically DC input power supplies. So impedance and ripple current ratings for the input and output capacitors matter.
When you're talking about the decoupling capacitor networks for a processor, those can have current transients in the tens of amps at rates in the 100s of amps-per-microsecond. Narrowly speaking the electrolytic or polymer capacitors in the decoupling network need to be low impedance - low ESR and low ESL. But capacitors with low impedance generally have high ripple current ratings.Last edited by PeteS in CA; 09-30-2020, 06:32 PM.PeteS in CA

some of them are rated at 100KHz and some are 120Hz, i don't know why they are not measured at the same frequency?Comment

Re: Do I want Ripple Current high or low?
It's an XBOX. Original caps were something like 2800(mArms) and the new ones I've been replacing are 2200 and 2500 (ZLQ and UHV). I've been going with 10v lately because space permits the slightly wider cap while getting a boost on the ripple current rating.Last edited by jayjr1105; 10-01-2020, 06:46 AM.--------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Do I want Ripple Current high or low?
Modern low impedance and ultra-low impedance parts will be rated at 100KHz because the anticipated usage is power supply and DC-DC converter output capacitors. Switch frequencies vary, of course, but the datasheets typically have a graph that gives an idea of how a part's impedance varies with frequency.
120Hz rated parts tend to be general purpose or designed for bulk input capacitance for a power supply.PeteS in CA

by chth96When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.
Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor. So I visited local electronics shop, and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.
But when I browse through rubycon YK datasheet,I found that there is no ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf specification. But On the contrary, I found 39 mA ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf SMS capacitor.

by sam_sam_samI have a battery operated tab welder and the battery does not have enough current for the battery tab welder because after about 30 welded it does not have the same current output it voltage has gone down by at least 0.500 volts or maybe a more than that
I can fit 21700 battery cells in the enclosure it is very tight fit for four of them that are 35 amp high current capacity 35X4=140 high current output this should work a lot better than what is installed right now
I tested the battery cells there are installed right now and they are testing good with no issues that I... -

I'm looking for a extreme high current short killer solution for a reasonable cost.
I have an LGA1700 motherboard (ASUS PRIME Z790-P WiFi) where I exchanged the LGA socket already 3 times, and every time after the socket exchange I get a short of power supply lines VCORE (V variable) and VCCIN_AUX (1.8V).
After taking off the socket, the shorts dissappear again.
The soldermask on the socket is already partially demaged from the heat, so I have reconstructed the soldermask by manually painting the missing soldermask parts with a very small top of a...10-15-2024, 10:13 AM -
by quicknameI'd like to start out by thanking this forum for providing the info to be able to repair my 15 year old CP1500AVRLCD UPS. Here is all the info I gathered during my trouble-shooting and re-capping.
Like clockwork, I've had to replace the SLA batteries every 4 years. It was about that time and the UPS was acting like it needed new batteries... randomly shutting off with AC present, not being able to charge fully, and poor runtime when AC was removed. So, I replaced the batteries but noticed that it was not charging properly.
I decided to verify that the batteries were... -
