    Looking for the datasheet of this 5.6uF Elna capacitor

    I am looking for the datasheet of this (quite old) Elna capacitor. It is rated 5.6uF/50V, CE85° 0010 (S), the serie is CE-BP(LZ).

    The only info I found for ELNA BI-POLAR cap is RBD series;

        Given the size, it has a high ripple current rating for its capacitance and is also for horizontal deflection coupling.
        My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

          Just go with a metal film cap instead (PP, PE, etc.)

            @Momaka: This is a good idea as this one measures a bit badly (around 2Ωs of E.S.R.) and quite high loss. Tipically this kind of capacitor as a E.S.R. inferior to 1Ω (measured other series took from CRTs) and very low loss (not higher than 0.8 on the average E.S.R. meter). It could be that it has aged. Howewer it is not clear if a single PP/PE is able to withstand 5-6A of ripple while this one should (though I will not use it as it measured badly).


            @japlytic: I think so. Howewer ELNA had another serie for this purpose and it is named with “H”. I've seen this different naming frequently even with other brands. Some are named “H” and some are named “LZ”. Sure they are both indicating high frequency capability but the differences are not clear at all.

            The suffix “LZ” is also used for several series low E.S.R. capacitors used in switching power supplies.

            The suffix “H” seems to be restricted to the purpose written by japlytic.


            The following one is the “H” variant. This is for sure for horizontal deflection coupling as it was listed as that onto an electronic store:




            Fitting the unproper capacitor in this circuit will result to failure of other components and the availability of replacements is quite scarce by itself. So it would be good (and also useful to other users) to discern which is which or if they are both suitable for the purpose.


            Hope that some of you guys can find a reference, a datasheet or a guide to markings used by producers.

              I didn't expect those old electorlytics (particularly the ones used on the H-deflection) to have such high ripple current ratings.

              That said, looks like you can still do it with PP caps.

              For example, looking at the Kemet C4AQ series of caps...

              ... a 500V, 5.6 uF cap (P/N: C4AQLBU4560A1WK) is good for up to 4 Amps RMS @ 10 KHz according to the datasheet. This is considerably lower than, say, Nichicon HA bipolar caps designed for H-deflection circuits:

              ... which can handle 7 Amps of ripple current for the same 50V, 5.6 uF cap.

              However, with the Kemet PP caps, if you move to the next higher rated DC voltage - i.e. 650V (P/N: C4AQCBU4560A1XJ) - then the ripple current jumps to 6 Amps RMS, which may be just enough. Only downside is the 650V PP cap will be bigger than the 500V one... and both will likely be much larger than the Elna BP electrolytic. On the other hand, at least you'll be getting excellent ESR with the PP caps: 15 mOhms or less. They are kind of pricey, though.

                Hi people, I hope this is the correct spot to post this, I'm new to the forum.

                I have an RTX 3080 Founders Edition which has a burnt up capacitor (it was in parallel with another capacitor which appears damaged too), so I am hoping to be able to identify the capacitor values and order replacements.

                I hope these photos make it clear which component I am referring to:
                (yes, the soldering is a bit botched from removing the blown one, I know)

                I have found the board schematic (attached), but there does not seem to be a boardview available. I have never...

                I replaced some capacitor which is located on optical pickup pcb which is shown in the table below(PCB #2).Because it have been out of order.
                Now,It works very well,But I just have found that all caps (6svpc100my and other part number as well) ,which is shown in the table below, has ultra-high ripple current spec.
                It is not able to obtain any capacitor which can be a substitute for this ultra-high ripple current nichicon capacitor.
                So I replaced it with samxon and rubycon's general capacitor(GP,YXA series).
                I know that these capacitor will not last as long as nichicon capacitor...

                How can I test non-polarized capacitor?

                I desoldered samwha NF capacitor(50v 5.6uf) from PCB circuit of 29inch CRT TV which have symptoms of no display after I heard sound of inrush of current to TV whenever I switch on this television.
                I measured ESR value of this non-polarized capacitor(samwha NF capacitor 50v 5.6uf) by means of MESR-100 ESR meter and It displayed 0.3 ohm

                And When I measured its capacitance with digital multimeter and LCR-T4 Mega328 meter, It displayed 10uf from DMM and 8uf from LCR-T4 meter.
                I found catalogue of samwha capacitor(samwha-catalogue_3.pdf file), which is attached to this thread,...

                a few days ago I finally purchased mser-100 v2 and I tested its abillity of measuring ESR value.
                I found that It shows pretty accurate ESR value for electrolytic capacitor,But When I measure polymer capacitor of dreamcast game console,I found that one third of polymer capacitor's ESR value is more than twice the value of ESR meter table.(for example, I measured one polymer capacitor of 6.3v 100uf, It showed ESR value of 7.68)
                Although my dreamcast now turns 20 years old but it still works. I occasionally have played game with it.
                Is this ESR value of polymer capacitor correct?...

                Hi everyone,

                I'm new to this, so I apologize for not providing enough details. Is there anything else I need to mention? I'm trying to learn more about electronic/board repairs and hopefully fix my own.

                The only visible issue on my board is one capacitor, CP813, which appears to be labeled R 221k 2kV (possibly obsolete to B 221k 2kV now). My monitor hadn't shown any prior issues, although it is a few years old. Just before the capacitor popped, there was a high-pitched squeal for 2–3 seconds.

                I don't see any other visible damage anywhere else on the board....
