    Epox 8RDA3+ has started crashing

Bought this mobo used 2 years ago. Been fine until the last month or so. Has started crashing (system shuts down completely without warning or the video disappears) during CPU intensive tasks (e.g., virus scan, full screen video). I have watched the CPU temps (Athlon 2800) and any time it gets to 55C or so, it's likely to die. Always starts back up fine (runs CHKDSK of course). Have swapped PSUs and video cards and it still does it. The caps look ok. I previously had an 8RDA+ with bulging caps and it ran for a couple years. Never crashed but finally wouldn't boot.

Does this sound like a bad capacitor scenario?

Post some pix around the CPU?

Sanyo WX for 12v side and Teapo for VCore side
The Teapo caps have most likely dried up and stopped filtering without bulging...

I've got that same mobo and it's actually good still to this day, using GSC on 12v side and Teapo on secondary side, but those two brands of caps on VCore filtering should make anyone shiver in fear...
You could try swapping out the Teapos and see if it gets better, no promises of course (especilly since there are no outwards signs...)

Yup, like Hansson said, those Teapo might be bad just no sign on the outside yet. You should replace those 3.

Did you try to leave side panel open to increase air flow and see if the crashing is delayed or eliminated?

Just to clarify it's the 6x capacitors that are the Teapo brand, not the 3x green ones (those are Sanyo, a good brand...)

Not lately but previous experience trying to reduce CPU temps (runs 50C+ at any ambient over 70F) indicated little if any CPU temp reduction with the side off. I will try again to see what happens.

A year ago, the CPU would max out about 60C running Prime95 and the board was solid when I stopped the program after 11 min. Last time it crashed, the CPU temp was only 53C and I was running a spyware scan which never reaches more than 50% CPU utilization.

Maybe time to move into the 21st century with a dual core chip and newer mobo

Well, I thought that was the case but didn't want to raise the issue.

So, definitely a recap is in order if this board is to be salvaged.

So you are not going to recap? Are you selling this?

If I decide to get a new mobo then I will definitely sell it. Would be you interested in the processor (Athlon 2800+) and memory (1 GB DDR400) also?

Epox EP 85 MVP3C-M - 3.54v Vcore regardless of jumpers
                          by kotel studios
                          Hi,

Recently I got an Epox EP-85 MVP3C-M board from scrap. After fixing the broken caps I powered it on without CPU and the jumpers set to 60Mhz FSB and 2x multiplier.
Sadly, Vcc3 was stuck at 3.54v regardless of jumpers. Vcc2 (Vi/o I think) was also the same voltage.
So, I've returned to the original configuration I got the board in - 100Mhz FSB and 4x multiplier. Voltages haven't changed at all.
                          What I've tried so far:
replace the original N-MOSFETs with beefier 60V ones for testing
Resolder the resistors near the Vcore Jumper block
                          Short Vcore...

                          Hey all,

This laptop came in with hard resetting crashing, not even blue screening after a few minutes on the desktop, same result with Linux Mint.
Strangely it seems stable plugged in on compatibility mode (nomodeset llvmpipe) which tells me I think the AMD Ryzen 7530u Radeon iGPU is cooked, but it also points to something strange with the buck converters or VRMs maybe.
Inspecting the board under the scope there's nothing obvious.

Sony KD-70X690E. Started with reset loops.. then it got more complicated. I'm at wits end!

First of all, thank you everyone who helps others in here! You guys are treasures! Please bear with me, this may be long. I have tried a LOT.

First, my wife said the TV was turning off and on. When cold it would be fine for several minutes, then it would start resetting.
I opened it up and noted there are two main lines coming out of the supply besides the backlight., The T-Con 12V line and the main 12V line.
TRIED 1 - I scoped power coming from Power Supply while it was all still connected. I noted that just before it reset, the 12V line going to the T-Con was going...

Xbox Series X - crashing to dashboard shortly after launching games
                          by survivalbloke
Hey all! I've got a XBOX Series X which came in with the complaint of games crashing to the dashboard after launch. I've tested a few games so far. Red Dead Redemption I observed will load up fine and sit on the menu no problem, but once I actually load into the world, it will not complete the load-in, and crash, stating something about an error must be sent to Rockstar, etc.. Truck simulator seemed to work fine. Minecraft loaded up and zoned into a world, but within a few seconds, it too, crashed to the dashboard. Where are the logs stored? What should I check?

Getting started repairing HP Chromebook 11a g8 EE Motherboards
                          by ncoy1123
Hello, I'm pretty new to component level repair and have only ever done things like replace headphone jacks or connectors, if those are even considered component level repairs. I have some Chromebook motherboards that are dead that I would like to practice on, but I'm not exactly sure where to start. I have HP Chromebook 11a g8 EE and HP Chromebook 11a g6 ee and their layout looks very similar. The issue that I have is there's power to the USB ports, but they don't actually turn on. There's no display output, and the way that usually flashes when it posts doesn't do anything. I was wondering how...
