Long charging period of a capacitor

    Dear Forum Members,

I have a PC mainboard with model GA-EP41T-USB3. I want to measure resistance to GND on the the ATX_12V line (called VIN in the schematics) by my multimeter in the resistance mode. When I do this measurement, first it shows 0 ohm then some capacitor in that line starts getting charged slowly and it shows 200 ohms then more and more and finally after 3 seconds, the resistance reaches the mega Ohm range.
this resistance measurement behaves the same whenever I try to measure it.
The ATX_12V line is connected to 4 high side Mosfets too which are shorted to the CPU Vcore, but not to GND. the CPU Vcore is not shorted to GND.
internal traces of the VIN line are bulged a bit due to an excessive current that has passed through it. but the internal traces can not be seen to check whether they are connected to each other or not.

Why does resistance on the VIN line take this long period to reach the mega Ohm range? is it due to a bad capacitor? or is it shorted? or is it normal to take this long?

I have attached the schematics document of this mainboard. the VIN line and its capacitors are located in page 37 of the document.

    thanks

it's what caps do, it's normal.

the meter current is very low, so the caps take time to charge.

now swap meter probes over .

testing in circuit or out of circuit? You should be testing out of circuit and if it still does this out of circuit, this is caused by leakage current (not electrolyte leakage.)

think my meter stops beeping about 30 ohms then stops beeping depending on the beep time and cap uf value ..it finds open circuit or shorted caps in circuit first then remove to confirm .. never had a esr meter . if it has been removed for further testing it gets a new one installed regardless .
yes i know its hit and miss approach but always worked for me .. swing meter was more fun to use .

Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

            Description:
During maintenance on an RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition, I found a capacitor lying on my desk after reassembly.
I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.

            Procedure performed:
            - Removed backplate
            - Cleaned heatsink and PCB with isopropyl alcohol + soft ESD brush
            - Reapplied thermal compound
            - Reassembled card

            Observed behavior after reassembly:
            - GPU powers on and operates normally under...

Smd Capacitor lost in PS4 Fat CUH 1215a - Hdmi Line
            by Pakamalu Flia
            Good morning team
I turn to you for help. A client brought me a Ps4 fat model CUH1215a.
            Motherboard model: SAC 00-1 1-980-066-31.

Diagnosis: The customer mentioned that the PS4 fell on the floor while his children were playing.
It turns on but does not give an image.
Power Supply: Ok -5 and 12 v line
The HDMI connector and its solders were checked. Everything ok.
Visual inspection of the motherboard shows the existence of a capacitor? absent in this part of the mother

            My question is, will anyone...

Broken capacitor and the PCIE line on RTX 3090 FE
            by “Eabdel”
            Hello,
I have a RTX 3090 Founders Edition and it's detected as PCIE X4 instead of X16
I took a look to the PCB and found that a capacitor, wich is linked to and the PCIE fingers lines, is broken. I count and it's on the 32 position (exactely the end of the PCIEX4)
Anyone knows this capacitor specification? I see some other models boardview and seems to be linked to the ground
Can I just solder the trace between them with no capacitor or it's risky?
            Thanks...

Low resistance reading on 3v line, Asus Prime H310M-A R2.0 desktop motherboard
            by lezsimply
            Hello Everyone and Good Day,

I've got an issue with this desktop motherboard. It does not power on, Asus Prime H310M-A R2.0. I tested 33ohms reading on 3v line on the ATX connector. It beeps on continuity mode. I tried injecting voltage from 0.9v at 1.5amps and no current being drawn. I raised the voltage to 3v @ 4amps and now I only get 22mA on current. I checked with thermal camera and there is no part heating up. I'm afraid of going further the safe voltage. What could possibly causing the line to be shorted. 5vsb has no short. I get 0.9v on positive pin of power switch. There's...

GTX 1080 TI Gigabyte Aorus low resistance on vmem
            by cind12
Hi guys, i was wondering, i've got 9Ohms on Vmem, one of the mosfet was shortet to ground, so i've desoldered hi and low mosfets nad still low res, then i removed all of the memory chips, and the resistance is still low, so did you had maybe a card with that low res on memories, and the card was working fine ?
Removed the U1866Q and still without result, i dont have thermal cam so can't see where is hot spot when incjeting voltage.
The resistance on core is ok 0.1Ohm ((Power 0.8V when on)
Resistance on 12V 4K ohms (Power present when on)
Resistance on 12V PEX 4K ohms...
