Any recent feedback for Samwha caps?

    Hi all

Do any of you have any recent feedback for Samwha caps?

I have just replaced 3 bad Capxon caps in a TV power supply with Samwha ones as these where the only ones I could get from my local electronics store. The TV is now working fine with these Samwha caps and I did buy the 105 degree and not 85 degree ones but I am worried they still might be nasty quality and wonder if I should swap them out again for some better ones. Also, if I should swap out some of the others on that board as a precaution.

BTW: I did buy some other caps from another store the other week that have no brand make on them but am I right that Panasonic do not put their mark on their caps? If so, how do you tell if they are Panasonic or not?

    Thanks

Samwha are alright. Not the best but far from being the worst. I have replaced a few failed ones in TVs (some have them from the factory) but all sets i've had bulged Samwha caps were over 7 years old.

Ok, thanks. If they still last for a few years then they will be ok then. I have bought some better ones to keep to one side in case the Samwha ones go. Thanks for the reassurance.

Bullshit because people tend to replace good low ESR caps with GP Samwha...
Not that the quality is bad, just people don't use them right...

          What Series?

Pls don't tell me you used RD Series?!
Because that's what I have to think about when People talk about Samwha...

I have used RD series in SMPS before, but i have checked the datasheets and respected the ripple current ratings - i put more RD caps in to match the ratings of the originals, Those were the only caps i had available at that time. TV's still going 2+ years later.

Th3_uN1Qu3: There is no problem doing it this way though.

Putting 2 caps in parallel will halve the ESR and double the ripple current capacity.

But just dropping in general purpose capacitors in place of specific low-esr or high ripple current capacitors without working out if the new caps can handle it is just asking for a quick failure.

Samwha are made by samsung and are usually okay.
You didn't say what the voltage rating and capacitance of the stock caps are.

Samwha capacitors are not made or owned by Samsung.
                    They are two separate companies.
Samsung only make tantalum and MLCC capacitors.

                      Hi

                      The original ones were CapXon, 1000uf 25v (2 off) and 1000uf 10v. Replaced with 1000uf 25v and 1000uf 16v.

I had to get these from Maplins. Can not remember what series they were but they were the 105 degrees ones.

Re: Any recent feedback for Samwha caps?

The original capacitors were CapXon KF series 105 degrees. Yes, looking at the datasheet they are quoted as being 'Low Impedance'. I already have some 'FR' capacitors which as far as I can make out are Panasonic and look like these are low impedance too so will swap them out to be safe.

When selecting capacitors, is it sufficient to match them according to the uF, the Voltage and if they are low impedance or general purpose?

This was quite funny to see as he did a awful job of replacing all the caps with whatever he could find and bodging them in. Looked a right mess afterwards.

I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

                            Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

                            Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...

                            Gigabyte GA-6OXT :: caps question
                            by Foetuss
                            Good evening

I recently aquired a rev 1.1 Gigabyte 60XT, and was suprised of the amount of leaking caps for a motherboard of the P3 era. Especially the way the 330µf caps seems like the housing discolored even.
Now, there are some 3300µF 6.3V KZG series around the CPU. Would it be OK to replace them with something like EEUFR1A332 ? (Panasonic FR 3300µF 10V). Or was this board designed around very low ESR caps?

But I was also suprised about the bigger boys, which are 330µF 25V.
Could it be they used 25V caps because they were cheaper / available at that time?...
