Hello, im new here but I've dealt with bad caps on MBD's before (ex-gateway tech support). Im trying to fix an NEC 17' LCD display that wont start up and simply just blinks the sleep light on the fron VERY FAINTLY whenever you try to power it on. So i pull the thing apart and lo and behold, there is a cap on one of the boards thats bulging and oozing out of the top. In your informed opinions, do you think this could be the source of the problem?

Bad Caps in a MONITOR?

What brand is the cap? The cap may be the source of the problem. However, it might also be the aftermath of shorted regulators or something else that caused it to blow.
I've never even seen the inside of a LDC monitor, so I can't speak too intelligently on how they work. Post some pics.<--- Badcaps.net Founder

Re: Bad Caps in a MONITOR?
I can confirm. In the two NEC MultiSync LCD1720M monitors that I repaired, there were actually 3 of these guys all in the same area - two were 1,000uF at 16V and one was 1,000uF at 35V. They were all "domed" on the top and one had electrolyte that leaked out. Did not take any pics unfortunately. They were radials. I replaced all three and that did the trick for both monitors.

Re: Bad Caps in a MONITOR?
Hi there - I'm so glad to have run across this thread. I unfortunately am not on the technical side, but do have the same if not exact symptoms/issues explained here. Would you mind possibly giving me a step by step guide to fixing my monitor like you did? Where can I buy these caps and how much would/should they be?
Thanks a bunch!!
Ron
