    Jura X90 Capacitor

Working on a Jura X90 Auto Coffee machine which was displaying a E8 error which is the brew group related. Ive cleaned and greased the brewgroup but still displaying same error. Is just making a loud clicking noise.

From a quick google issue is said to be the brewgroup motor / transformer or motherboard.

After an inspection ive discovered 2 x cracked solder joints comepletely shot and after removing the board theres a big cap behind it and its casing has heated up and bubbled.

Is this toast and what exactly is it? A AC filtering capacitor?

The cracked joints sit directly in front of the caps.

That white box is a filter with a .47uF, 250VAC X cap and a two-winding common mode inductor with 1 mH windings. This is the Jura P/N, 58055000041 A4. It looks like it is available online.

Is there anyway to test it? Just connects to ac so hard to see how it went bad.

Thinking where cracked solder joints were might have caused it as are just mm in front of it.

        Re: Jura X90 Capacitor

The damage would be due to overheating. Whether the cracked solder joints caused it depends on the circuit downstream from that connector. If there are inrush limiting thermistors and a circuit that could cause high inrush current, intermittent contact at those solder joints could cause that problem. On the other hand, there could be another problem downstream that caused excessive current and damaging that filter.

I realize ~15 Euros is not peanuts, but I would not trust that filter. The enamel on the magnet wire could be compromised, causing a short in a winding or one or both windings shorting to the core. The heat may also have damaged the X cap. Much of that potential damage could not be discovered with a meter. I recommend replacing it, being aware that there could be a further problem.

Its about £18 in total for a second hand replacement due to the pound being so shitty right now. Just want to try it out but you are right so will hold off and get it ordered.

you can scavenge those type of filters from most things with motors in.

This capacitor include 4 parts , 2 capacitors and two inductance , so it's better to stay on the safe side and buy the original one , even if expensive . What damage those filter capacitors mainly is power surges .

                Re: Jura X90 Capacitor

Since ive got the board out and waiting for part is there anything else i can check on board to check for any other issues.

Connectors on left are as follow

1st Bottom Left - Out to transformer
2nd Bottom Left - In from burnt AC fiter cap
3rd Top Left - In from transformer 15v DC (Broken solder joints)
4th Top Left - Out to Motor

Problem was not providing power or enough power to motor, perhaps was just the solder joints from the DC in. On rear of board looks like another small transformer which is leeching from the rear traces inbetween the AC in and out to main transformer feed up to the top right diodes where CM4 is.

The thermoblock is getting power and heats up very quick as expected.

Ive checked diodes in circuit and seem ok.

The way i see it , you might recommend a power stabilizer or a Timer and voltage relay . Or , in the worst case , replacing the capacitor each year or two ..

it's only to supress motor noise, you could test the unit without it.

that's not its only role .. Should have continue reading :

                      What is electromagnetic noise interference?

When electronic devices receive strong electromagnetic waves, unwanted electric currents can be induced in the circuit and thus cause unintended operations or interference with the intended operations. If the energy applied from the outside is too powerful, electronic devices can be damaged. Even if the energy applied from the outside is small, if it is mixed with the radio waves used for broadcasting and communication, it can cause loss of reception, abnormal noise in sound, or disrupted video at places where the radio waves for broadcasting and communication are weak. Such interference caused by external electromagnetic waves is called electromagnetic noise interference, and the electromagnetic waves that cause interference are called electromagnetic noise (hereinafter, noise).

the filter is to keep the noise inside the device so it wont effect stuff like radio's & tv's

Still have issues with this even after sorting solder joints and replacing that cap.

Still makes a loud clicking noise. From a diagnostic site suggest issue could be with transformer.

Thing is ive disconnected the transformer AC and DC from the board and still get the same clicking, not as loud though. (AC goes into board first then into transformer)

Could it possibly be a relay issue? the two longer ones midboard perhaps or still transformer as relays not getting power / enough power hence clicking?

                            Switches are jw1afsn-dc12v-tv

Ive measures DC terminals on transformer with all AC stuff still hooked up and was getting no reading.

That transformer looks like a 50/60 Hz transformer, rather than something that would operate at >20KHz. Transformers don't have DC leads. Transformers operate on AC.So if you measured at the transformer leads your meter should have been set for AC. The easiest to describe place to find DC would be across that blue electrolytic capacitor next to the two large rectifiers.

Ah ok transformer lowers the ac voltage then a rectifier changes from ac to dc

I seen the output of 15v / 9v and assumed it was dc

                                This is the transformer

Tested again in AC mode and still nothing. Measured on the two red cables coming out of the transformer the 15.5v. The other two sets of cables were plugged into the board and just the two red cables (output) was disconnected to measure at.

that thing on the rear i assume is feeding the front panel controlls? The connectors top right are for the front panel, power button, display etc

Hi people, I hope this is the correct spot to post this, I'm new to the forum.

I have an RTX 3080 Founders Edition which has a burnt up capacitor (it was in parallel with another capacitor which appears damaged too), so I am hoping to be able to identify the capacitor values and order replacements.

I hope these photos make it clear which component I am referring to:
(yes, the soldering is a bit botched from removing the blown one, I know)

Now,It works very well,But I just have found that all caps (6svpc100my and other part number as well) ,which is shown in the table below, has ultra-high ripple current spec.
It is not able to obtain any capacitor which can be a substitute for this ultra-high ripple current nichicon capacitor.
So I replaced it with samxon and rubycon's general capacitor(GP,YXA series).
I know that these capacitor will not last as long as nichicon capacitor...

How can I test non-polarized capacitor?
                                          by chth96
I desoldered samwha NF capacitor(50v 5.6uf) from PCB circuit of 29inch CRT TV which have symptoms of no display after I heard sound of inrush of current to TV whenever I switch on this television.
I measured ESR value of this non-polarized capacitor(samwha NF capacitor 50v 5.6uf) by means of MESR-100 ESR meter and It displayed 0.3 ohm

And When I measured its capacitance with digital multimeter and LCR-T4 Mega328 meter, It displayed 10uf from DMM and 8uf from LCR-T4 meter.
I found catalogue of samwha capacitor(samwha-catalogue_3.pdf file), which is attached to this thread,...

Is it no harm to replace with capacitor without ripple current rating?
                                          by chth96
When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.

Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor. So I visited local electronics shop, and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.
But when I browse through rubycon YK datasheet,I found that there is no ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf specification. But On the contrary, I found 39 mA ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf SMS capacitor.
                                          Rubycon YK DataSheet (b...

                                          Should I replace polymer capacitor?
                                          by chth96
a few days ago I finally purchased mser-100 v2 and I tested its abillity of measuring ESR value.
I found that It shows pretty accurate ESR value for electrolytic capacitor,But When I measure polymer capacitor of dreamcast game console,I found that one third of polymer capacitor's ESR value is more than twice the value of ESR meter table.(for example, I measured one polymer capacitor of 6.3v 100uf, It showed ESR value of 7.68)
Although my dreamcast now turns 20 years old but it still works. I occasionally have played game with it.
Is this ESR value of polymer capacitor correct?...
