    I need help ID-ing a Bad Cap.

    Hi,

    There is a small split in the light blue insulating cover of a very small Capacitor (flat + round) marked HL 221K 1KV.

    It is on the power supply board of an LG TV.

    I have searched the internet, and so far I have found;

    221 ='s a value of 220 pf

    K ='s +/-10%

    1KV ='s 1000 volts

    I was offered a dark mat brown one by RS a supplier here in Scotland, but it was not light blue and shiny, so it did not feel like it was the same kind.

    Also no-one seems to know what the HL means either(one thought the H meant- High Temp).

    Help, and thank you for pondering this.

    Best regards,

    JW

    Its a high voltage ceramic capacitor. Plenty available on eBay for pence.

        JWH, the picture focus is not good, but the apparent thickness of the caps and the slit in the PCB suggest to me that they may be safety agency approved Y-caps. "HL is probably the manufacturer's series name. Lots of brands on the market, with their own case colors. As long as you get the voltage and, if applicable, safety agency type correct, it should be good.

        Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

              A decoupling capacitor , no big deal , you can put any 220 pf , 1kv . This one's role here is like a fuse against surges , lightning and of course decoupling .
