    what to do if a cap is not listed on its datasheet

    I have a Dell 2005fpw monitor that i'm replacing the caps on the main board.
    It has at least 1 Samwha cap 22uF 25v RD series that does not have an entry in the ripple current table. Datasheet attached. Looks like it's a 5x12mm.

    Why might a cap be missing from the table?
    What do I do for a ripple current value?

    Custom size. It's GP cap, so use GP again. If you know exactly where it is and what it does and it is possible to use low-ESR or at least long-life cap there, you can use that.

      "Custom size"! That I would not have guessed.

      Looking at the datasheet, do you think it is reasonable to to guess at a approximation for my mystery custom cap? I would guess 66mA of ripple. I ask because I want to know if my reasoning is valid.

      By "GP" I assume that's "General Purpose"?
      I know where it is but not what it does. I don't have the knowledge yet to make a guess. The main board in a monitor (this monitor) looks like a video card. I imagine it is a computers video cards' counter part, one encodes a video signal the other decodes. Other then that it's beyond me and, i'm not sure of that guess.

      Now I am noticing that there are many caps that don't have ESR or impedance values listed in it's datasheet. In those cases, when selecting replacement caps, would any value work? Is there a general rule to guide me in these cases? Maybe a "middle of the road" value?

      I am surprised at how complex a simple looking part can be. The more I learn the more I think art and science are the same thing.

        In the beginning there is usually statement about what type of cap it is. If it states general purpose, you don't need to exactly match it, any decent general purpose series will do. E.g. NCC KMG, Rubycon PX.

        Some types, usually general purpose, long-life or high-voltage caps do not list impedance.

          That's a teeny cap. I would get a cap of similar type and size, but higher ripple current handling and same ESR.

          The thing is, ESR is listed but generalized across voltage and temperature, so that means these caps are literally basic general caps with wide temperature handling, which is necessary for this application. Monitors get warm, hot, cool, and all over the place in their environments. So get something similar. You'll never see the -55 so IDK why they used a cap with that low of a temperature rating, just get one of these and you'll be good to go:

            When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.


            Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor.So I visited local electronics shop,and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.

            I would like to create a table, or more likely a guideline about the voltage rails and their possible resistance rail.

            I know that the motherboard design has a very big depend on the rail's resistance, but I would like to know what is the smallest value for a rail that can be acceptable. For example, I heard that some new gaming motherboards can have 0,5 Ohm resistance on the GPU rail, but on an older type, it could be a sign of a shorted GPU rail.

            Help finding datasheet for component marked G34662

            Hi, pulled this component, (I'm assuming it's a MosFET) from an LED COB video light. Im trying to find the datasheet so I can find an equivalent replacement but no luck. Any assistance with the datasheet would be appreciated.

            Failing that, a way to pick a suitable replacement component? If it's indeed a switching fet, I'm assuming I might need to measure the switching clock frequency and find a component that meets the power capacity?

            Its a pair of them driving a 130w Light. Takes in 19volts. I can borrow a scope to measure the switching freq....

            Is there a manufacturers tolerance for ripple?

            Hi all

            I need to replace a 680uF 35V SamYoung NXB cap which has got a ripple of 1820. Whilst passing my local little electronics shop I picked up what they had in stock which was a 680uF 35V Panasonic FC with a ripple of 1655.

            As the ripple rating is only 9% below what the original was I am wondering whether to risk it and fit it.

            The catalogues specify a capacitance tolerance of +/-20% but state nothing about the ripple. If there is a similar tolerance for ripple then I might be worrying about nothing. Does anybody know?

            I got a dead HD6950 on Ebay to try my luck and repair it. There were a few broken off capacitors that I already replaced.
            Measuring the PCI-E lanes I got somewhat weird measurements, the gpu might or might not be dead.

            If I plug the GPU in, the core heats up and I also get VCore but on two inductors that measure 16 and 60 Ohms respectively (Memory and PEX I guess) there is no voltage.
            On one of the two buck-controllers (APW7165) the enable pin is pulled to GND and the other controller I just cannot find a datasheet for.

            So if anyone has a datasheet or at least...
