Re: bad links lead to virus

I have been using this site for quite awhile and never had a problem. The people who do the software for this site are very good at what they do. If you have a problem with a link you should let them know what link. When you go to a link that means you have left this site and they do not have control over that site the only thing is they can remove the link on this site.

Which links did you follow ?
If visiting a webpage is getting you infected, i suggest ensuring you're patched and up to date with your OS , web browser and addons such as Flash.

wcax.com is unsafe to visit right now, due to a code injection. You can expect to get scam scareware there! That one telling you to call and it bleeps.

It would help to know in which thread you found the links.

I've been on badcaps.net for close to 8 years now. Most links that people post are safe. But like keeney123 said, these are external sites, so badcaps.net has no control over the content that is posted there. The links could be fine today and infected tomorrow. So you should exercise caution not just on badcaps.net, but anywhere on the internet really.

Like Diff said, make sure your OS and software is patched up properly. Better yet, use a HOSTS file (if using a Windows OS). That will cut down on probably 90% of the bad stuff that can infect your computer, if not more. AdBlock Plus may also help you avoid clicking on click-bait advertisements.

Lastly, don't rely on anti-virus software only (in fact, don't rely on it at all). Common sense is by far the best method to keep your PC clean. Always verify that the links posted match the links shown in your status bar of your browser. And avoid external image hosts if possible (like imageshack and photobucket) - they've been known to have malicious ads from time to time. There was just a thread here not too long ago that had that and Topcat (the site admin) had to remove them.

My OS has always been up to date as well as AdBlock and others. There was a link or 2 to photobucket.

Did you get one with a message on a web page saying that you're compromised
and the PC bleeps... That's the kind of scareware that computer noobs are falling prey to...

yupp, if u find a post with a malicious link or content, the proper way on a forum to do it is to use the report post button on the lower left corner of the post to report the offending post to a mod/admin.
