    Should I worry about Polymer Capacitor higher leakage current

    A few electrolytic capacitors on my 300 watt subwoofer has blown. I was thinking of replacing them with polymer capacitors for their higher temperature and ripple current tolerance and low ESR. However, the leakage current is also sixty times higher. For example, I can get a Panasonic FR capacitor which has a 3uA max leakage current rating while a polymer capacitor will have a 200uA leakage current. Should I be concerned? Is the polymer capacitor a viable replacement or should I stick with regular capacitors?

    i would be more concerned with the esr being much lower.

      Wow! That's really a good question. My gut feeling is that the original design called for electrolytic either due to a technical factor or if not that, to cut costs. If it were my sub woofer, I think I would replace all the electrolytics using the same values but boost the temp rating to 105C. Unless you have some special smoke & mirrors design, I would use the Panasonic NHG standard series.

        I have an Optiplex GX260 that blew a couple of those troublesome Nichicon HM series (ultra low ESR) electrolytic capacitors. Because said caps are obsolete, they are pretty much impossible to find on the market; I did find a listing for some but I believe they are counterfeit. I feel the easiest thing to do would be to replace all the blown caps with polymer ones. I am by no means an expert in electronics, and I've found a fair bit of conflicting information, so any guidance or confirmation would be greatly appreciated.         I have a battery operated tab welder and the battery does not have enough current for the battery tab welder because after about 30 welded it does not have the same current output it voltage has gone down by at least 0.500 volts or maybe a more than that

        I can fit 21700 battery cells in the enclosure it is very tight fit for four of them that are 35 amp high current capacity 35X4=140 high current output this should work a lot better than what is installed right now
