Re: 4 terminal capacitor is soldered wrong?
Yes, center holes are 10mm apart. I'd prefer to get a 4 legged capacitor if I have a choice since it adds extra anchor given the size of the capacitor and the 15" woofer that will be vibrating it. In fact one leg did break a solder joint.
The sub did have hum among other issues. Four other Soundia caps blown. I figured I'll replace all the Soundias.

Re: 4 terminal capacitor is soldered wrong?
When I replace those caps should I solder them as before or should I cut the trace around that blank terminal?

I uploaded 3 pictures on OneDrive. I circled red the position of the two capacitors. I have not been able to find any info on the Soundia Capacitors. So I don't know if they are upto spec or not. But based on my measurements, capacitance is at 9mF, dissipation factor at 2.2, ESR at 100KHz is 0.3 Ω, ESR at 120Hz is 0.4 Ω. Both pretty much measure identically. Looking at spec sheets of Nichicon at Mouser, these Soundia's don't look too...Last edited by primetime; 10-01-2016, 04:17 PM.

4 terminal capacitor is soldered wrong?
I'm servicing the amp on my subwoofer. Each of the two main AC capacitor filters(10mF 80V) have four terminals. The two capacitors are in series. I read the spec sheets on a different capacitor at Mouser and it stated that the two blank terminals should be isolated from either the positive or negative terminals. They are for mechanical support only. Yet, one capacitor has one of its blank terminals connected via a trace with its positive terminal and the negative terminal of the other capacitor. Is this a mistake in the design of the circuit board?Last edited by primetime; 10-01-2016, 05:18 AM.

Should I worry about Polymer Capacitor higher leakage current
A few electrolytic capacitors on my 300 watt subwoofer has blown. I was thinking of replacing them with polymer capacitors for their higher temperature and ripple current tolerance and low ESR. However, the leakage current is also sixty times higher. For example, I can get a Panasonic FR capacitor which has a 3uA max leakage current rating while a polymer capacitor will have a 200uA leakage current. Should I be concerned? Is the polymer capacitor a viable replacement or should I stick with regular capacitors?

How good is the UNI-T UT612 LCR meter?
I'm looking to get an LCR meter so I can test ESR of capacitors. The UNI-T UT612 looks decent and the cheapest unit I have found that can test at 100 KHz. Given that most capacitor data sheets state the ESR at 100 KHz I thought I'd get a meter that can do 100 KHz. Any of you have an opinion on this unit? Ebay has it for around $150.

Re: How do I test TCON?
Voltages on test points 18, 19 and 20 fluctuate five times a second. Is that still normal?

Re: How do I test TCON?
Test points 18, 19, 20 fluctuate rapidly up and down in the range indicated. The other test points are steady. The results are mirrored on the other board as well.
1 = 16.86 volts
2 = 15.93
3 = 13.78
4 = 12.89
5 = 11.89
6 = 11.51
7 = 11.27
8 = 10.91
9 = 10.37
10 = 9.47
11 = 7.81
12 = 7.09
13 = 6.47
14 = 6
15 = 5.72
16 = 5.35
17 = 4.34
18 = 3.39-3.43
19 = 1.2-3.2
20 = 0.2-3Last edited by primetime; 10-20-2014, 11:42 PM.

Re: How do I test TCON?
I uploaded the TCON picture. Is the TCON picture not showing for you or not high resolution enough?
I didn't see the gamma on the TCON but there is gamma on the two board strips attached to the panel. Is that what you are referring to? I don't know what voltages to reference on that gamma?...Last edited by primetime; 10-20-2014, 10:48 PM.

How do I test TCON?
I am not a pro. I am working on a Samsung UN46B6000FUZA LCD television that the previous owner spilled liquid on and continued to use which lead to the corrosion of the traces and capacitors on the board attached to the panel. Initially, the problem was there were vertical, multicolored bands, about five inches wide on the right side of the screen and the picture would black-out every second and come back on and so on. The image underneath the bands looked OK otherwise. When I saw the corrosion and the sticky liquid covering the board I immediately cleaned it off with some alcohol. A few of the...Last edited by primetime; 10-20-2014, 11:04 PM.
