    What is this polymer?

    You are looking at ECS 945GCT-D board with Intel Atom CPU and his Vcore caps. Everyone recognize the OST ones, I bet. But the 270uF 16V input polymer?



    The color is very much like Nichicon (Nichicon LE looks similar - http://trodas.wz.cz/kondiky/cap_images/1215252750.jpg -, but did not have the voltage rating on itself and it is not a RP one anyway) but it is not. I hope OST is not started producing polymers of similar quality as their elyte caps?

                          I refuse to buy from a company who can't spell or complete a sentence with good grammar.

                          I'm sure that they take the same care with the products they manufacture.

                          I'm glad that those components are ROSH compliant .

                          Elite? I replace their wet electrolytics on site another crapacitor company.

                          I know that they are polymers in the picture without electrolyte but that just means they won't let you know when they fail.

                              Did you notice that there isn't a 16V 270uF cap listed?
                              Many companies do custom caps, or not update the datasheets... a Samxon GD 2200uF 16V d10 or Samxon GD 470uF 6.3V d6.3 is good examples.
                              But I agree that a 270uF 16V d8 is too generic capacity that it SHOULD get listed. It is used frequently in Asus Vcore input boards...

                              If it was only that... Elite wet elytes are "not so elite" ones anyway, I would rate them as bad caps, but I'm always too harsh.

                              On the contrary. I seen many examples when these Elite polymers on the Vcore input on Asus mobos blow-up. So, don't worry. You WILL see and hear them fail

                                  Hello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.

                                  The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...

                                  a few days ago I finally purchased mser-100 v2 and I tested its abillity of measuring ESR value.
                                  I found that It shows pretty accurate ESR value for electrolytic capacitor,But When I measure polymer capacitor of dreamcast game console,I found that one third of polymer capacitor's ESR value is more than twice the value of ESR meter table.(for example, I measured one polymer capacitor of 6.3v 100uf, It showed ESR value of 7.68)
                                  Although my dreamcast now turns 20 years old but it still works. I occasionally have played game with it.
                                  Is this ESR value of polymer capacitor correct?...

                                  Mid/late 80's Nichicon Yellow Caps

                                  I recently acquired a set of Bose Roomate speakers from the mid to late 80's. Basically the right speaker cabinet is completely passive, and the left one has the power transformer and amplifier circuit in it. Out of curiosity, I opened it up to see what the circuit looked like. Looks like they used all Nichicon VX (2x 4700uF/16v for smoothing off the bridge rectifier), a couple random Nichicon SE series sprinkled on the board, and what really caught my eye - 2 yellow sleeved Nichicon caps (both 1uF/50v with no real series marking.                                   A few days ago,I destroyed one of my japanese retro game console by pluging it to 220v outlet.

                                  and I finally fixed​ this retro game console by soldering varistor and glass fuse.

                                  But I noticed that When I measure voltage of PSU's 5pin connector, it is 8.80-9.07v, 5.13v,3.40-3.48v,GND,GND instead of its rated voltage of 9v 5v 3v GND GND.
                                  I have spare console...
