    Help needed

Hello to everybody. I am from Illinois. I am an oldtimer with a small amount of computer knowledge. I have a HP Pavilion that went from bad to worse, hanging up to not posting. When searching the internet for information I came across your site. I am going to try to repair it myself.
The motherboard is an Asus M2N78-LA '' PEGATRON ". It has 12 capacitors that are bulging, all of them are TK 6.3v 820uf. The rest look ok. My first question is: do i replace all or just the bad ones. The capacitors range from 100uf to 1800uf. The second question is, when ordering new ones, what information do i need besides the voltage, UF and temperature? I am sure i will have more questions later.

replace all the caps 680uF and up. Post a list, and I can point you in the right direction with what to order.

          Re: Help needed

before you do that, check in the psu
bad motherboard caps can be caused by poor power from a psu with bad caps.

              Re: Help needed

Here is a list of capacitors on my Asus M2N78-LA motherboard.

              8 very small 25v no uf markings 105 C
              8 KMA 16v 100uf 105 C
              3 Sanyo 16v 100uf 105 C
              3 "Polymer" 16v 270uf
              1 KZE 6.3 330uf 105 C
              1 KZG 16v 470uf 105 C
              1 "Polymer" 2.5v 820uf
              12 TK 6.3v 820uf 105 C
              10 Panasonic? 6.3v 1500uf
              3 Panasonic? 6.3v 1800uf 105 C

The only ones that I could see with varying degrees of bulging were 11 of the 12 TK 6.3v 820uf, from slight bulge to one with crud on top.
I removed all 12 TK 820. The desoldering went well. I also removed 2 Sanyo 16v 100uf and 1 KZG 16v 470uf because I thought they looked suspicious [tilting and maybe bulging]
I have a Pay pal account or my credit card. I would like replace what ever you think is best with quality capacitors. Also, STI mentioned checking the PSU. I looked on you tube but did not find anything that could be a good way to test. I do not have any tools other than basic multi meter and am open for suggestions on checking the PSU
              Thank you

                  Re: Help needed

I did that. When I opened the case [the psu had not been turned on for at least two or three weeks] I did not see any thing abnormal. I did smell a very very faint smell of burnt electrical. I do not think any thing was burnt however. The psu was and upgrade from the original. It is 450 Thermaltake asnd about 5 years old.

These are the only ones that really need to be replaced:
                        1 KZG 16v 470uf 105 C
                        https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...roducts_id=148

                        12 TK 6.3v 820uf 105 C
                        https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...products_id=49

The panasonics shouldn't give you any trouble, but feel free to replace them anyway. the 100uF sanyo won't be bad.
