    Dfi Nf4 Amd S939 Motherboard

    hi everyone,
just got meself a dfi infinty nf4 mb and hooked everything up, when i powered on the pc it made a crackling noise and one of the capacitor things caught fire.but its still working.i'll try and put a pic up so you can tell me if it was an essential part of the mb.also the atx connector is 20 + 4 pin on my psu.the board has a 24 pin connector, my old asrock mb had a 20 pin.do i connect both ?.also my hard drives have suddenly died too, i think it had summit to do with the fire.

I would think that any part of your PC that catches fire is important. It may be working now but may not continue to.

Before i answer the ATX connector question i'll wait for the pic.

That's not a capacitor in your pic.

I assume that the load that component was carrying is now distributed amongst other components.

I believe i would remove my still functioning CPU from that board before........<poof>.

Re: Dfi Nf4 Amd S939 Motherboard

If it has a 4 pin connector on the motherboard then you need to plug it in (PSU 4 pin plug). If it does not, then the power normally supplied (if needed) is supplied by the motherboard through other means.
