Using a 5 volt @ 12 amp switching power supply and two USB doctor volt / amp meter to three IPads on one power supply

I have been wanting to do this project for some time using a Mean-well switching power supply that I bought at least ten of them that were originally in a device that was abandoned for some reason they were listed new but removed from equipment that was never used

I do not understand Mean-well the capacitor next to the voltage reference ic chip was a brand that is known for failure over time the other capacitors are brand name needless to say it got replaced before I even powered it on for the first time

I used a four USB outlet and electrical plate that is made for the device and two USB doctor volt / amp meter so I can keep track of the current that is being used for the iPads

Some pictures sometime tomorrow if weather permitting me to go out to the shed because we supposedly going to have a tropical storm going through the state of Florida tomorrow through Monday so hopefully I can get something done tomorrow on it but we will see

I mounted the switching power supply in the enclosure but I have to drill some holes in the enclosure for the power cord and use some epoxy for the two USB doctor modules to the front panel of the enclosure and other odds and ends and wire up the power supply to the USB doctor modules

Here are the pictures that were promised in the beginning of this post

The four outlet USB port module was modified and it was split into two separate parts so that the USB doctor modules could be used and a bigger switching power supply could be used

I plan on making another USB power supply port but I have to order another four USB port module and remove the switching power supply board because it limits the current to four amps total with this setup I can have 8 to 10 of current output roughly
2.5 X 4 = 10 amps maximum which gives me roughly a 2 amps of headroom with this switching power supply that I am using for this project

I will add a 12 volt cooling fan later if needed but I have to use for a few days to see weather or not it would need one to be added or not

Hopefully when I do the next one the USB doctor module cutouts will be done a little bit better than how this one looks but I do not think it turned out too bad but it could have been better

Here is the USB 4 output module that was modified you have to modify the USB port board and split it into two separate USB ports of two ports per USB doctor module because each USB doctor modules are rated for around 5.5 amps

In the last picture was I was using for two tablets and the other tablet was on another switching power supply that had a USB doctor mounted on the switching power supply and used this setup for several years now but when I found the four usb ports module I decided to make a better setup for charging my tablets

Well I have used it for several days now and I do not seem to have a heat issue with the switching power so the enclosure is still at room temperature so I am convinced that I do not need a cooling fan in it

So as far as I am concerned this project is completely done

One thing I learned from using this 4 USB charging port is that if you unplug the device from the device and not from the USB charger port it will not automatically charge the battery for the device really this is a little inconvenient and you have to remember to unplug it from USB port charger for it to reconnect to the right charging current which sometimes you have disconnected and reconnect several times for it to get it right

        Otherwise it works decent
