    MSI board...

Ok. I posted a quicky in the MSI forum regarding my nforce 1 board, it's a k7n420 pro. I will post pictures soon of the caps going bad on it. I am having spontaneous reboots. The Rubycon Caps on it are perfect as well as the TEAPOS. The Lelons are a MESS though. Now as I have read here, the TEAPOS and Lelons are shit, so even though the TEAPOS are ok, should I replace them too? What should I replace and with what values - I heard the 1500 uFs are hard to come by. I will call my local distributor tomorrow... I only have problems when trying to use onboard peripherals. I think the Rubycons are responsible for the processor...

    The values and brands:

    x5 10v 1500uF Lelon (All trashed)
x10 6.3v 2200uF Rubycon (I think these handle the processor)
x18 6.3v 1000uF TEAPO (Placement ALL over the board - ALL look ok)
x1 6.3v 1000uF Unkown (No name, kinda looks like a TEAPO???)
x1 6.3v 1500uF Unkown (No name, Brown - not green like TEAPO or Lelon)

Any recomendations would be great. Thanks!

    T.J.

You know, it must be Murphy and his law, because I always spend extra money for what I thought was extra quality, and here I am replacing capacitors that probably cost less than a damn penny. Who the hell would have thought?

I would replace all caps 1000uF and up. The rubies are fine, and need not be replaced. Teapo caps are not known for venting and bulging up, but they fail all the same. I've seen that on MANY occasions. A board with teapo caps is flaky, but caps aren't swollen. I replace the cheapo teapo's and the flakiness disappears.

    Welcome to the boards!

      Well I did the job...

Well, now that I see your post, it looks like I should replace the cheapo Teapos... I went ahead and replaced the 5 toasted Lelons. My parents use this pc for business and needed it fixed fast. My local distributor had never heard of low esr caps, so I just used what he had. I figured that these non-low esr caps HAD to be better than what was on the board. So my buddy and I replaced them with the same rating SHOEI capacitors. All of my drivers installed first time, no more reboots, and I am typing this message on the PC. I will post pics as soon as I get them off my friends cam. If the pc begins to be flaky, I will order up all new caps 1000uf and up, all low esr and replace all of them, but jeezus, 18 TEAPOs? It might be cheaper to just buy a new board.

      Thanks for the help.

Figure a buck a cap... That's $18.00 or so to replace the cheapo teapos... I don't know of where to get a quality replacement board for $18.00...

          true... except

Yeah, thats true, except another 9 bucks for shipping, plus the 12 bucks I spent on the caps I did replace, gives a total of 39 bucks, and a new board with the same features would be new and probably only 55 to 60 bucks. Maybe a new board, newer features, faster, and warranty is worth the extra 16 bucks eh?

              Re: MSI board...

Just encountered this MSI board. It was working fine, but fifteen Lelon 1,000/6.3 were all bulging and leaking -terrible mess. Teapo s and Rubycons are OK. However, despite all the BS and fancy prices, this board is cr*p. The FSB/mem selection options are limited and interdependent, no multiplier selection and the BIOS updates are a joke - some will permanently make access & reflashing impossible, and the latest will cause a range of lockups and malfunctions. Folks object to any complaints about nVidia, but my solid experience, along with ATI, is that their products are poorly designed and poorly constructed; they should leave chipsets to the experts. Matrox is OK for design but pricing is ludicrous and they have severe 3D & compatibility issues. Not a lot of choice remaining?! VIA?! C7?! Unichrome?!
