    ESR and V tester

    Good day.
Any body know of a good cheap ESR meter and electrolytic voltage tester combined (bench type).
I found one on the net ,but, forget its location . It was about 130 $.
Any info would be appreciated as I am finding more and more electrical stuff are faulting mainly due to the low quality electrolyte's in them .
Unless i am wrong , I have noticed the capacity is usually lower that what is written on them.,........................Thanks,..Alan

You just mentioned the magic word that every professional hates.
Therefore stay in your world, and me I will do the same.

Actually he did not JUST mention that word, it was in his initial request so
yes, you should have just stayed out of it.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

My thought was that he is planing to to get a used old meter from the few oldies who have some good record.
If some one is ready to spent 130$ for a some sort of gismo, he is more close to get a proper LCR.

                        Re: ESR and V tester

Alan, please ignore Kiriakos, he has a tendency to scoff at anything that may seem cheap, and can't recommend something without making some remarks.

Atlas ESR Meter is an OK tool, but it's a bit expensive for what it does.

Just like Blue ESR (that's also available at around $99 here or on Amazon/eBay) or esr Micro (which you can read more about here ), these tools give you an approximation of the actual ESR of a capacitor which is good enough to test a capacitor.

I own esr Micro and it's perfectly fine for repairing stuff. If you want just a basic esr meter (which can also measure capacitance) I would have no problems recommending it to you.
I would however recommend contacting RusMike here on this forum, he makes and sells this tool so you'd get the best price talking to him directly.
                        Here's his user profile : https://www.badcaps.net/forum/member.php?u=12802
Click on contact info and send a private message and be patient, it may take a couple of days for him to check his mail and reply.

If you want something more professional and more accurate, you would have to go with a proper LCR meter.
One of the cheapest would be Uni-T UT-611 at about 100$ but it's limited to 10 kHz measurement (still good enough for testing capacitors)
                        If you want 100kHz, there's Uni-T UT612 at about 170$ : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Handheld-LCR...item258204378e - there's a thorough review here on eevblog : http://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgea...612-lcr-meter/

Another good LCR meter would be the Mastech MS5308 for which you can actually see a good review here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ewbA35-Gts
The Tonghui th2822a meter reviewed here seems good, but seems expensive for 10kHz max: http://kuzyatech.com/tonghui-th2822a-lcr-meter

Other LCR meters that I've heard about or seen people discussing about them would be the following below. I can't say "go ahead and buy them" because I didn't see thorough reviews for these:

                        1. 10 kHz max : http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-High-Qua...item4176b13360

                        2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AT826-LCR-Me...item2c757cc81a

Check eevblog.com and see the threads discussing lcr meters or search for the names of the lcr meters above if you're interested in reading more about them.
