Capacitors look ok can they still be bad?

I have a Vizio vp322 that has the power problem that seems to be a common topic on-line. I took it to a repair shop that offered free estimates and they said it was a power board that they could replace for $140. Since I inherited this tv and Vizio says it's 5 years old, I started searching for cheaper alternatives.

Note that when I took the tv in to the shop, I could get the tv to power on after about 2 minutes of pressing the power button and eventually getting the white Vizio logo to stay lit. But after I picked it up from the shop after declining the repair, it won't even go into standby mode with the orange light lit.

I took the cover off and looked at the capacitors, but didn't see any bulging or leakage that all the photos of bad capacitors on-line use to identify bad parts . But my question is: Can they still be bad or be too weak to power up the tv, even if they don't bulge or leak? If so, I think I'd try to replace them before junking the tv.

Any help from one of your knowledgeable forum members will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Yes, it's possible.

Check the voltage regulators on the boards, 1.2v , 2.5v , 3.3v, whatever is there... also check the main power supply...

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I don't have any electrical tools (or very much electrical knowledge, to be honest. I'm pretty handy otherwise, though.)

But as long as they can be bad without having any tell-tale visual symptoms, I guess I'll try replacing them.

A digital multimeter is cheap, can be as low as 3-5$, and for measuring DC voltage even such cheap tool is adequate.

Go grab one and test the voltage regulators. If you don't know which are those, make some clear pictures of the boards inside and we may be able to point them out for you and tell you where/what to measure.

Sounds like a good idea. Didn't realize the tool could be that cheap. I'm pretty sure I can figure out how to use it. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.
