    Preemptive recapping...

sooooo I see that some motherboards these days still are using KGZ's for pci/usb filters and occasionally NB filter.

I'm guessing replacing these would void your warranty, and motherboards can die for ALL kinds of reasons.

Is it worth it? Maybe I should keep the KGZ's and incase the board dies for other reasons, put them back on. Maybe I should find some lead free solder to do it. would have to clean the flux off too. Hmm I wonder how closely they look at a board if it gets returned

I would replace brand new KZGs on a brand new board... Why whould it void the warranty? No one needs to know. If you do a good enough job, they'd have to look really close to see that the caps have been changed.

I would of course put the old caps back on, just clean the surface

and if I lost them or something I have tons of old boards with KGZ's to scrounge from

I think it would void if they saw the flux underneath as well as discolored solder joints. Companies would use any excuse to refuse a refund or exchange

      has anyone actually done this?

I clean with acetone... They'd have to look really close to see my joints are post-factory...

Recapping Sony ICF-SW55 - verifying cap values
          by proxneo
          Dear reader

I am performing a repair on a Sony ICF-SW55, which includes recapping (some) of the SMD capacitors on the mainboard. I am looking for verification of their values. At the moment, I'm 95% sure I've got the right values, but it is hard to find some official, credible or multiple independant sources on this.

At the moment, I have selected replacements based on the following list of values:

          3 x 470uF 10VDC
          3 x 4.7uF 35VDC
          4 x 47uF 50VDC
          8 x 22uF 6.3 VDC
          1 x 220uF 6.3VDC
          5 x 100uF 6.3VDC

          Which...

Recapping a Denon AVR X6400h SMPS
          by Green Probe
(TLDR: It was capacitor C6519 [Koshin KZH 50V22uF] and C6515 [Koshin KZH 25V47uF] on the power supply. I have questions at the end)
Disclaimer: I'm an amateur hobbyist and will get things wrong.
Always use caution when working around mains power and high voltage capacitors!

Hey guys, I'm repairing a Denon AVR X6400h for my brother. It quit powering on after a power outage. It acted like this last time there was an outage, but after letting it sit overnight it started working again for a few years. This time letting it sit did not bring it back.

Recapping KRK VXT6 without original datasheets
          by slerner
I'm desperate to save my pair of 2007 KRK VXT6 studio monitors, one of which died.
Hoping for an easy fix, I bought a pair of new-old-stock replacement main boards. I installed one & it was DOA. Tried the other, also DOA. I suspect that 15 years in a Maltese warehouse dried out the electrolytic caps. I tried replacing just the two largest caps, which didn't help. Except to confirm that the old ones wouldn't reach infinite resistance & were a gram underweight.
Q: How do I match the caps, since there's no series marked on the originals and no circa-2007 catalog or datasheets...

Delta DPS-300AB-24b 300 Watt ATX PSU recapping
          by momaka
Figured I’d separate the recapping details of this PSU in a different thread so that the information can be easier to find. To be more specific, this thread is about recapping of the Delta DPS-300AB-24b, shown here. All details about the build quality of that PSU are posted there.

Here is the PSU, just to see what we are dealing with:

And here is a cap diagram:

Let’s break it down what goes where…

          * 5VSB
*** cap spot C952: Ltec LZG, 10V, 2200 uF, 10x30 mm before PI coil
          *** cap spot C953: Taicon PW, 10V, 680 uF,...

Recapping a Bell Expressvu 9242 satellite receiver
          by goldbird78
Hi All, I am recapping a Bell Expressvu satellite receiver due to the known issues with swollen caps. I want to use Nichicon or Panasonic caps...Couple questions

          1) is low ESR & low impedance the same thing ?
          2) Am I safe using low or super low impedance capacitors as a replacement everywhere ?
          3) I have read that you can go higher on voltage with replacements. for an example if the originals are 820uf 10v could I put 820uf 25v without any issues ?
