This is my first post. Great to find such a helpful forum. Without this, I would never attempt some things I have in mind.
My monitor symptoms are a dark screen upon bootup with some slight lightened areas. After a Google search indicated that Samsung manufactured this Gateway monitor and it is known to have bad caps and the dark screen with slight highlights at edges was a common problem, I ordered a kit.
I now have the case apart, but am not so sure about replacing caps. I see none of the classic symptoms I expected to see; i.e. swollen case, oozing stuff, blackened areas.
Any advice on how to proceed?

But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
