    Capacitors for ESC

I fried two capacitors in an Electronic Speed Control and I although I found an exact match at Mouser.com they are backordered for about 17 weeks. I just need two.

I am wondering if it is possible to use an equivalent or something maybe rated different that still might work. The capacitor I am wanting to replace is Radial and the specs on it are:

    35V 560uf
    105 degrees celsius

It would help if you say where you live.
If you're in US, a good online store to buy from is http://digikey.com.
If you're in Europe, a good online store to buy from is http://uk.farnell.com (they have several languages and versions for various countries, check what works best for you).

Besides those three characteristics, when you replace a capacitor with another one, you also need be careful of two other values that are not listed on the capacitors but are listed in the datasheets.

ripple - the replacement capacitor must have equal or higher ripple value
impedance - the replacement capacitor must have equal or lower ripple value

If you can't find the datasheet for the old capacitors, it's generally OK to go with capacitors known for their high quality such as Panasonic FM or FR series, United Chemi Con KZE series, Nichicon HM or HN series and so on.

If you tell us everything written on the capacitors you have, maybe we can suggest alternative capacitors.

PS. There's also this site's online store but depending where you live, it may cost too much to have them shipped to you.

I am in the US. It is a Rubycon capacitor. It has a number on it as well. T1017 and the other has the number T1020.

That is probably the manufacturing date ... year 2010, week 17, respectively 20.

These will work, provided they're small enough to fit the room you have on the board:

        10 mm wide:

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...name=P14442-ND (the one above is better but this one is only 20mm high, great if you need low height)

        12.5mm wide:
        http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...name=P12401-ND (it's 50v but doesn't matter, as long as it's >=35v it's ok)
        http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...name=P14462-ND (same story)

Thanks that information is really helpful. I have a fair amount of room to work with. I just hope some new capacitors solve the problem. I will let you know for sure.

          Thanks again.

I guess I cant help but ask, is it ok if the microferete or th uf is above 560? I might be able to get something like this at Radioshack. Although I am not sure what the ripple current is on Radioshack stuff since it does often print that on the bags.

You're better off not getting any capacitors from Radio Shack because they are general purpose and aren't suitable for your application.
You need to specify what series your original Rubycon capacitors are. There should be a 2 or 3 -letter code on each cap indicating that. You can then use that info to find a data sheet for the cap in order to determine the ESR and ripple current rating.
