Dell XPS Gen 5 Bad Caps

    Hello,

    I have a Dell XPS Gen 5, GC068.
Symptoms - Random BSoD, Freezing, & Lockup.
I opened the case and I found a nice surprise.

2 Nichicon 2200uF, 6.3V, HN(M),H0516, 105°C Caps barfing! (highlighted Yellow in images) There are also 2 Nichicon 1000uF, 10V,MCZ,T0528, 105°C Caps that look fine. (highlighted Blue or is it cyan?) most of the caps are Nichicon but are Black w/ White text. There are only 4 of the Black & Gold. I am also posting images of the CPU Caps, Brown KZE 1600uF, 16V & Yellow 560uF, 4V w/ F mark.
It would appear that I need only to replace the 2200sor are there others I should be wary of?

    Thanks

    For 6.3 2200uF HN: https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...products_id=62
For the 16V 1200uF KZG, replace with this: https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...roducts_id=156

Don't replace the Yellow caps. Those are very good caps, no need to touch them. The MCZ caps are Rubycon, not Nichicon, leave them alone too.

If you want, replace all the small "VR" caps that are only 85c rated with Panasonic FC or Nichicon PW.
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

      Thanks Mockingbird,

Good catch on the Rubycons! My eyes are not what they used to be.

Question, the Brown Caps are KZE, not KZG, I thought I read that the KZE were okay? The other ones that I was concerned with were Nichicon 3300uF 6.3V (Magenta arrows new Image), and a LXZ 3300uF 10V(Green Arrow).

      Again Thanks.

KZE are fine and don't need to be replaced.

        LXZ is reliable.

The 6.3V 3300 Nichicon HM should be replaced if the date code is earlier than 2005. If it's 2005 or later, no need to replace it.

KZE are okay. - KZE and KZG look alike. Easy to confuse them.

The bloated HN are the only definite/immediate problem I see.

The small 85C caps are sometimes a problem.
If any look bloated [won't be much] change them all.
If the board is quirky and you can't find a good reason then replace all those little buggers on the off chance they are it.

This is the second Dell board I've seen today with blown caps [that should be good caps] in RAM and no other problems.

            Thanks yy,

Last question, Mockingbird referenced Samxon for the Nichicon 2200 6.3. I found Nichicon ones here https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...roducts_id=137.
Why pick one over the other? Aside from the price that is? .61ea vs .89ea

The HZ has lower ESR & higher Ripple.
In effect it's an upgrade to HN.

                Thanks All,

I ordered the Nichicon 2200uF 6.3v Ultra Low ESR Electrolytic Capacitors. I'll post back after I replace them.
