    Cap Brand Check

I cannot find the following listed in the bad catagory.

CapXon and Xunda. Both brands are in a new 500W Power Supply just purchased.

Input please. It is a little difficult to trust cap manufacturers at the moment.

    Intel E8400 (3000Mhz) Bios temps. 4096Mb 800Mhz DDR2 Corsair XMS2 4-4-4-12
    160Gb WD SATAII Server grade
    Nvidia 8500GT 256Mb
160Gb WD eSATAII Server grade for backup.
    Samsung 18x DVD writer
Pioneer 16x DVD writer + 6x Dual layer
    33 way card reader
    Windows XP Pro SP3
Thermaltake Matrix case with 430W Silent Power

      Re: Cap Brand Check

I have now removed all capacitors in low ESR positions. 5 in all. They are all branded XJ nothing else. They are being replaced with Rubicon.

The power supply is made by Delux and they quote 60,000 hours before failure. I do wonder how the caps figure in that number.

It is interesting to visit the Delux web site search on (Delux power supplies). Low cost A$45.00 and good finish with large 120mm fan. Model DLP 388A.

        Re: Cap Brand Check

The 60K hours figure is probably a weighted average based on the reliability (source = vendor) of each component and the number of components, at some assumed load and ambient temperature. If (biggest 2-letter word in the English language) all components are good quality, properly chosen, the design is good, and the P/S doesn't get zapped by a huge lightening strike, the first component in the P/S to fail would probably be the fan.

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

When my power supply fan failed,
it threw the power supply at me.
