    Ceiling Fan Capacitor

Perhaps someone could provide some direction.
    - Ceiling fan, 25 years old, used 2/3 of every year but very clean.
    - Temps dropping so I shut it off one night.
    - The next day, after starting it the motor area began producing a subtle but strange noise that I can only describe as imagine two Phillips head screwdrivers and occasionally one of the screwdriver shafts slides down the other (a clean metallic scraping). The repetition is random. Only happens wen the motor is running (the bearings are fine). I tightened all mechanical components.
    - Then the medium speed (the speed it is mostly run on) started slowing.

I'm glad to replace the capacitor (image attached). But for the life of me I can't reason out what I'm hearing or why. Can a failing capacitor cause such a strange noise as this?

    Thank you for any input.

if you turn it by hand is there any friction or wobble?
the thing in the picture looks like it's for interference suppression

Thank you. Sorry, I was not aware of inclusion of interference protection.
There is a second block labeled 4L (photo attached). Would that be a run capacitor? Do you know what 4L indicates?
The subtle noise seems to me to be excited by motor magnetism as far as I can tell. It spins very free by hand and has no wobble.

It is likely 4µf 250vac, they are listed everywhere as fan capacitor

Sometimes a worn out lower shaft creates noise as it moves freely inside the bearing ring. There is a spring on the shaft which prevents slippage.

Sometimes the motor will spin freely by hand, but the bearing is stuck due to dried-out grease and the shaft is just slipping in the bearing's inner race. Disassemble, clean out the old grease (lacquer thinner works well), re-grease (synthetic is best) and reassemble.

If you are lazy like me, skip the cleaning and just oil the bearing well with synthetic (such as Mobil 1 or equivalent) which will solubilize the hardened grease. You may need to first pry out the seal(s) if any. Rotate the shaft a few turns and visually verify no relative motion between the inner race and shaft to ascertain that the bearing is indeed free. I oiled a squeaky fan like this (without first removing the old grease) in 2012 and now it is still running fine and quietly. The synthetic oil does not lubricate any better than conventional oil, but is much more resistant to gumming up.

Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

              Title:
Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

              Description:
During maintenance on an RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition, I found a capacitor lying on my desk after reassembly.
I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.

              Procedure performed:
              - Removed backplate
              - Cleaned heatsink and PCB with isopropyl alcohol + soft ESD brush
              - Reapplied thermal compound
              - Reassembled card

              Observed behavior after reassembly:
              - GPU powers on and operates normally under...

Motor run capacitor physical size vs voltage rating & measurements?
              by Per Hansson
              (TL;DR skip the first paragraph)
I encountered my first dead motor run capacitor at a customer this week.
For some fields I guess it is a very common occurrence but the usual way for industrial machines here is to use 3-phase motors.
(Unless a servo motor makes more sense that is).
But for some reason this 3-phase machine uses a 1-phase motor for its liquid coolant pump.
The pump would run but sometimes trip the 10A breaker.
I monitored it starting and stopping for over an hour until it finally stopped in a specific spot between its windings:
              Then it could...

              RTX 3080 FE Identifying capacitor
              by Prolog
Hi people, I hope this is the correct spot to post this, I'm new to the forum.

I have an RTX 3080 Founders Edition which has a burnt up capacitor (it was in parallel with another capacitor which appears damaged too), so I am hoping to be able to identify the capacitor values and order replacements.

I hope these photos make it clear which component I am referring to:
(yes, the soldering is a bit botched from removing the blown one, I know)

I have found the board schematic (attached), but there does not seem to be a boardview available. I have never...

Dick Smith Q-1760 linear power supply filter capacitor question
              by Agent24
I have acquired a used Dick Smith Q-1760 power supply - although the OEM is Manson Industrial
It has at least one problem.

The voltage control potentiometer VR2, 50K is faulty - going high resistance / open circuit in the CCW end and leading to the output voltage jumping around.
I have already ordered a replacement potentiometer, so that's not an issue.

Now, I want to replace all three electrolytics on the PCB as they are CapXon and I don't trust them so much, I will replace them with something better while I've got the thing apart anyway.
              All are CapXon...

If I replace with inferior capacitor, Is it No harm to other IC components at all?
              by chth96
I replaced some capacitor which is located on optical pickup pcb which is shown in the table below(PCB #2).Because it have been out of order.
Now,It works very well,But I just have found that all caps (6svpc100my and other part number as well) ,which is shown in the table below, has ultra-high ripple current spec.
It is not able to obtain any capacitor which can be a substitute for this ultra-high ripple current nichicon capacitor.
So I replaced it with samxon and rubycon's general capacitor(GP,YXA series).
I know that these capacitor will not last as long as nichicon capacitor...
