    Suspected black light grey Jamicon

I can't test ESR, so please read below or take a look:

    Jamicon
    85°C
    VENT
    SK

As you can see in pic 1 & 4 the pressure valve got no "typical Jamicon vent style".

SK series aren't for motherboard, probably neither PSU.
I bought it in december 2008 from a reseller (that solds new, old and very old caps), unfortunately there's no date code.

My intention is to use this in a 1990 tv, of course only if it's a real Jamicon.

Is this SK real Jamicon or not?

That caps probably ancient if it doesn't have a vent on it at that value.

I have some old removed Panasonics at 1000uf without a vent they make good firecrackers. When I reverse polarity overvolt them on a variac.

Only if it's a real Jamicon you do know that Jamicon's are crap right? Doesn't look like the negative band on any Jamicon caps I've seen. Based on the design and print on caps that I've seen in older equipment I've opened that cap looks like it was manufactured in the 80s.

Jamicon SK series looks like this:

Use a real cap brand like Panasonic, Chemicon, Nichicon, or Rubycon and stop playing with these no name crap caps. Do the repair once and do it right.

Chemicon KMG series for example is a good General Purpose 105C rated cap that would work for your situation.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

Pretty sure Jamicon OEM's their caps. [Outsources manufacturing.]

I agree with Krankshaft: Those look old.

Jamicon's parent company is Kaimei electronics. I think they OEM their own fans and caps. They also make ballasts for lights. Wonder what those are like....

Thanks to everybody, this confirm that my reseller sold me very old caps.

I have some Rubycon with and without a vent and they're marked with date code:

          8319 without vent
          8940 with K vent
          both are CE W series.

I bought them two years ago. I will not buy caps anymore from this reseller.

A few months ago, I got rid of a 1995 TV full of SK Jamicons, and none of the high-ESR ones (all in the vertical section) bulged or leaked.

I didn't toss the TV because of them but because the front of the plastic cabinet had become so brittle I was afraid the CRT would one day fall off.

Don't worry about the date code, at least for the black ones. I have 16v 2200uF ones that i use in a class A headphone amp of my own design, which feeds on 18 volts. They don't mind the overvoltage, no heating, bulging or anything.

BTW you will see Jamicon caps sold in many electronics stores as "general purpose". They aren't excellent, but they will do the job.

Time for a brand new wood cabinet.

I have a 1987 Blaupunkt color tv with chassis FM100-30E, it's still working with 50% original caps.
One of the original is in the primary circuit, it's a EFR Frako 150uF 385V.
Three years ago I found a Frako leaking in the vertical circuit, so I decided to recap some of them.

I also have a 1992 Vw Golf III with original Bosch Monomotronic ECU full of Frako caps.
