    Difference between 200WV & 200v rated cap

    Hi, I need to replace 2 caps in a 750Watt PSU.
    The knackard caps are 1000uf 200wv 105c. All I have close are 1000uf 200v 85c.
    First I can't find out what the difference between 200wv and 200v is?
    Second my replacement caps are thinner than the originals.
    Can someone please advise?

    WV just means Working Volts. Same thing as regular volts.

      Yep - WV is working volts. Threw me the first time I saw them in an LG Plasma.

          The only volts you need to worry about is where your cap volts are less than the circuit voltage. Guaranteed to let out magical smoke (sooner than later)
          Stupidity should be a crime, especially for drivers. I have NO patience for them.

            I had a set of computer speakers that had a 10V cap filtering the 12V power supply. It didn't blow up, and there wasn't any power supply noise on the output of the amp. The speakers were 12 years old and still had the original caps. That was an unusually good cap.

              If I remember correctly, some (if not most?) cap manufacturers actually make their caps withstand a slightly higher voltage than the printed maximum voltage on the cap (if you look at a data sheet for United Chemicon, for example, they will list a surge voltage rating under the WV).
