    Vizio issue

Just picked up this VOJ320F1A today, in hopes of fixing it and replacing my mom's 20 year old tube set. It powers on fine, sound is good, but the picture is , for lack of a better description, washed out. I haven't opened it up yet, but was hoping somebody point me the right direction to look towards for when I do tomorrow.
    Thanks..

Check the gamma voltages on the T-con.

      Re: Vizio issue

There's no visible t-con board on the tv. The main board is under the metal shroud, and there is a connector with several wires running underneath it, into the framework. Do I need to dig deeper? And if I pull it further apart how do I test it..in pieces?

The T-CON is under the big metal plate, you need to remove the metal shield for the main board first so you can disconnect the LVDS cable to the T-CON otherwise you will rip up the LVDS cable when you lift up that metal plate assembly. This chassis in not made to be repair because you cannot get to the test points on the T-CON when you gave all the boards connected together.

There are more one maker of the LCD panels (looks like 4 panels) for this model, if it uses AUO T-CON, then it will be likely to have have bad AS15 Gamma cip.

Thanks for the links and the info...gives me a bit of hope. ALthough I'm ok with my soldering iron I'm not sure I can install that chip with all of those pins. Is there a trick to it? Would I better off buying a used board?

Removing and replacing a chip like that can be done by soldering iron, and i have done so. Doing that takes some experience, tools and some courage under your belt. If you lack in any of these areas, no offense. You will be much happier and more successful spending the extra $10 on the full tcon rather then the repair kit. Hell Id get the tcon for$28 bux rather then the $14 repair kit just because, well its easier and cheaper then my time mucking around.

Thanks Jeff, I found a seller on Ebay that's got 4 of them, and good feedback. I'll just do it that way.

Thanks again everybody for the time and tips.

So did you find out which version of the T-CON board you have in your TV before ordering the replacement?

                      Re: Vizio issue

Setback. The boards I'm finding on ebay are listed for my model, but the part numbers on the boards and the pics are wrong.
                      I need
                      31T05-c02 T315HW01

Any other sources you can point me towards?

Is this the correct board? http://www.shopjimmy.com/auo-55-31t0...-con-board.htm

Unfortunately its out of stick but shopjimmy lists its actual part number as AUO 55.31T05.C01

                          Re: Vizio issue

                          Close. mine's
                          55.31T05.C02

Don't know if that last digit makes a difference. I found a couple international seller on ebay that have them, but they're upwards of $100. I can't justify that.

According to SJ, that is the correct one.
                            They are not cheap.

There's an Ebayer in France that advertises a repair service for about $33. I'll sit on the set for a bit and see if somebody else posts one up on Ebay. If not, I may send it over. I'll only have about $60 in the tv at that point. Be a good for for the step-mom...
