I stumbled upon this forum while looking for a ROM image for a ThinkPad T520 (model 4242W38) - and I guess any 4242 would do, so I actually found one here. A few years back my T520 somehow had its Intel ME firmware corrupted, resulting in a brutal shutdown after exactly 30 minutes. I eventually (after quite an ordeal, involving a dubious repair show that failed to do anything, except they tried to steal my RAM!) gave up and bought a W530, but I still would like to get the machine up and running stable again, to supplement my two W500 and one T500 that I am also still using, all of them with Devuan Linux.

I'm not really a hardware guy, but I am also not a quitter and always willing to learn new stuff. And old machinery is all I can afford unfortunately... (And I also hate wastefulness of resources, and like using and reusing/upcycling old stuff in general. I've only bought 3 computers as new in my life - an Amstrad in 1985, and an iMac and a desktop PC in 2000, all others have been refurbished.)

Right now I am in a research phase, but I might pop in again soon and have some questions. (And if anyone can provide useful information from the short description above, it would be amazing. For a long time, when I researched this, I mostly found the various threads I have already made on a couple of other forums. One thing I am curious about is whether the ROM image I downloaded includes the IME firmware?)

Like a lot of us, I'm a 21st Century Warrior with a primal urge to tinker with malfunctioning gadgets....This extends to electroncs, where I hope to wield hot-air and solder in a never ending battle against the evil forces of shoddy manufacturing and planned obsolescence. Can I download boardview files now? Will that "introduce yourself here" message now go away (fingers crossed....)
