Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi Everyone,

I've had a membership here awhile, but finally decided to make a introduction post (my first post). I would like to say that this site has helped me a lot in terms of finding issues repairing my 22" monitors as I would hate to have to buy new ones. Mostly due to the fact that I have 4 of them and 3 are kind of a gaming set via TripleHead2Go Digital.

I have basic knowledge of Electronics, and I'm a strong believer in DIY, mostly because I enjoy to learn how to maintain my own products.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi, Been around computers all my life. My dad worked at IBM for over 30 years and was on the final test line for the 1401, 360, and 370 mainframes. When I was kid I remember him coming home with tubes and wire guns-before IC. I think we actually owned the very first model IBM PC, even before it went retail. Now, I seem to spend most of my free time keeping our home PC operating, and remember next to nothing about electroinics (actually, I'm an ecologist!). So now I've got a couple old computers that have blown caps, and figured why not try to repaire them -- nothing to lose! Great site, very informative. Thanks.

Hi, I´m very glad to be a new member in this community.
I was looking on the web some info about how feed the DES 1016 Switch without AC power, as for my application we have only 48 VDC from a battery bank, and I found a nice forum about that.

Hope in the future I can send some interesting info or start a thread.

Hello all, my name is Aaron. I am a DIYer, I've worked in the automotive field for 4 years but currently not working a technical job. I am a security gaurd, holding a first responder
credential. Obviously I use computers, and built my last two. Naturally when a component fails I will attempt a DIY fix. If you have car trouble you can pm me and I'll try to help.

Hello. I'm Richard from Brisbane, Australia. I like to have a go at most things myself with the exception of dentistry and septic tank repair. There are probably other things I won't try my hand at but they're the two that immediately sprang to mind. After reading the posts on this forum there were more and more things I could think of around the house, or more specifically, in the shed, that potentially had badcaps !!! Thanks for letting me join the forum

Hi guys, first time I've posted on a forum and all that. not really the biggest fan of them but quite like what I've seen of badcaps so far and it certainly has been helpful.
I have no experience working in electronics and only a basic education in said electronics but I collect tools and equipment like it's gold and I cant help but try to fix things and I learn fairly fast!!
I'm studying in aerospace engineering field but definitely want to be able to fix ALL of my own electrical gear so I take on all my mates crap that I think I can fix.
Anyway, name is Diarmuid, aged 20, living in London.

My name is Jason. I am a network engineer for State Government.

I joined recently to learn and get more information on a specific CAP that I have and scared to get shocked.

My worst fear is getting shocked. I hate it. I really really hate it....but anyways. Never done much with CAPS and before I take on the LCD repair I figured I would try to educate myself.

                                  Thanks,

Hi, I am prof_unrat (now you wonder, where you heard that name before...), and I am a computer junkie (well, I get withdrawal symptoms, should I be unable to get my daily "fix" - pun intended). I found this forum, because I was looking for the schematic diagram of one of the "cheap and (not so) cheerful ATX power supplies, that seem to die by the score, and often because of the horrid non-existing "quality" of the fitted electrolytic capacitors. I also have a number of "late" motherboards, that suffered a similar fate. As I am a trained electronics service engineer (industrial radio and TV service and maintenance), I am fully aware, that electrolytics are the usual Achilles Heel of most electronic equipment, and computers are sadly no exception there. Over the years it seems, that the quality of these components has steadily gone downhills (hardly any trouble with the old IBM PC-XT, the Amigas or Ataris etc), ever since chinese manufacturers started making capacitors. Well, to me using, modding and repairing computers of all types is a hobby, but it brought me and my friends many hours of quality fun and puzzle solving... :-)
Thanks for allowing me onto this forum, I'll try to be a "good boy" and stick to the rules, but I will never be good enough at typing to became a usable secretary, so please forgive my typos.
PCs must be the devil's design - how else would they be such infernal machines ?
