Hello all. I am a Industrial Automation Technician with a background in Computer Science. I grew up with computers. My first PC was a Motorola 8088 powered IBM clone. Gotta love the 4/8 mhz turbo button! I am mostly self taught, with a sprinkling of college courses here and there. I don't have much of a background in electronics, though I have done some minor pcb troubleshooting and repair. I signed up on this forum primarily to gain valuable insights from those with much more electronics experience than myself. I love pulling things apart to see how they work. Hopefully, with the knowledge I gain here, I can become much more proficient at putting them back together. Thank you in advance.

Hello all, I've used the resources here before to help myself and a few friends with TV problems in the past and now I want to make a post to ask a question.

I'm a computer tech by trade and the transition to TV guts is not too bad.

Thanks you all for the support you provide and the counter-disposable message you put out there.

Hi there, am new to this famous forum am very happy to be part of it. Am a computer repair technician has a fair experience in the field. But i got a HP g6 third generation laptop on my work bench which has been driving me nuts for the past 5 days. When I put the processor into its sockets, it returns power, ie the adaptor led on the laptop goes off therefore cannot power on. But without the pocessor its able to power up, without display. Have tried several other processors but same result, tried to change all capacitors on vcc core power lane to see if it was caps which were been shorted to ground but to no avail. Your help will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

                                    Hello Everyone:
I am very much a newbie to boards, caps, and everything small.
my professional experience is actually in industrial repair and large scale wiring. PLC's relays, 220V 3 phase pumps etc... i am not an electrician i am a brewmaster, but when pumps stop running you cant make beer and I've learned a lot through necessity in 15 years.
a while back i got into electronics repair as a hobby and i have come here to ask questions.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

                                      Hello All,

I have been building computers since ~1981 with Ohio Scientific 6500 boards. I was repairing TVs and such since 10th grade at a local TV shop in 1977 through about 1983. Then I had a shop, for the company I work for, in Cincinnati, for 15 years and came home to Central, PA in 1999. I have been an electronic tech for 35 years.

Recently, I started repairing TVs, Pads, laptops and Computers (again) on the side for people. Flat panels seem a lot easier to repair than what I used to work on (the Zenith hybrid chassis from the late 1960s and 1970s, and similar). I guess the best parts to keep in stock are electrolitic caps and EEPROMS for the Vizios - lol. I fixed a Westinghouse a bit back that I had to replaced the back-light ballasts transformer in (burned up). Other than that, bad solder, EEPROMS and bad caps. I am not looking for more challenges than that. Back in the old days, we had huge supplies of Sams Photofacts schematics and adjustment guides. I assume they are still around? They were expensive even back then. Unless I see a lot of the same model, I can not justify the expense, so hence I found this forum and hope to have it a good resource. Is there a good on-line source for schematics when needed?

Anyway, getting my shop set back up and have a few 32 inch flat panels to fix and then put up for sale. I am just waiting for some parts I ordered yesterday.

My wife advertises on facebook and picks up some work for me, but I want to be cautious about the tax and extra income thing. If business starts to be good then I want to be 100% legit. Right now, I have been just trying to help people and not make money. I talked with one person that said "Do not sell parts, just your labor, then set 25% aside for federal, state and local taxes." I donno, I would like some advice on that if I really seriously start to do this work on the side. In today's throw everything away world, I don't know if people will pay to fix their stuff.

Well, take care and see yaa all on the forum.

                                      Dave

Hello, my name is Chris. My work experience is in Copier and printer repair but I love computers, audio equipment, and electronics of all kind. I recently came across an LCD TV that has a good screen but won't power on. Google brought me here so I'll (hopefully) get to post the details shortly and humbly request your help.

Hi everyone, I have designed computers for over 38 years including mini computers, 1st Pentium server on cover of PC Magazine and too many desktops and servers to remember. As a result of this work, I designed motherboards that had faulty caps. Amazing what the industry did not understand about high switching currents due to faster, denser logic and component sourcing in the new world order.

I have a Samsung DLP TV with LED light engine that has bulging Samwha caps that I need to find replacements for.
