Hello All,

I have been building computers since ~1981 with Ohio Scientific 6500 boards. I was repairing TVs and such since 10th grade at a local TV shop in 1977 through about 1983. Then I had a shop, for the company I work for, in Cincinnati, for 15 years and came home to Central, PA in 1999. I have been an electronic tech for 35 years.

Recently, I started repairing TVs, Pads, laptops and Computers (again) on the side for people. Flat panels seem a lot easier to repair than what I used to work on...

Does anyone have an idea what causes this EEPROM to fail in so many TVs? Is it the part just failing or is it loosing its programming and if so why? What prevents the same failure from occurring again?

I have one that I just ordered a Main PCB repair kit from ShopJimmy (although I think only the EEPROM is bad).

My question is, what is causing the EEPROM to fail? Is it really failing or just getting its programmed scrambled? That's scarier yet.
