                        New to the board.

I have been fiddling with electronics since the early '80's.
I distinctly remember typing pages (and pages...) of basic code from magazines into my Sinclair ZX80.

I'm looking forward to gleaning some troubleshooting tips to repair my 60" LG plasma

                            Hi,
Roger from Virginia. I have a Panasonic Viera GT30 that just went dark with no sound. Some clicking on startup and plugging in. Also, no menus or vieracast app menus, and nothing works. I will be posting in the TV Troubleshooting forum as soon as I can. I'm currently recovering from ankle surgery to fix numerous injuries over the years with the Army, so now is the worst time to not have my TV!

I have been in electronics for about 35 years. I have been in electronics repair and building boards. The excitement of working on anything that is electronic it gets me up every day. I am working on a hp monitor 1740 that goes off as soon as I turn it on. Changed all the caps and diodes. I have tested all the voltages and still can't get it to work correctly
If any body out there can figure it out email me or post it

Greetings Badcaps - Im blown away, that there is a site called "badcaps"???. 20+ years ago ( junior in high school in American Samoa), a capacitor exploded in my face, no injuries, just fast beating heart and a lot of paper in my face :-). I have been completely away from Electronics repair for more than 15 years, and would love to get back into it. As in the case of things "we dont use, we tend to lose" I think ive lost some if not most of the technical knowledge I learned thru high school & community college.

Anyhow, I look forward to learning from all of you.

Well here goes. I've joined the forum but mainly been a lurker. Helped some friends with a few systems who have bad caps in them, and now it's my turn. I've got this nice (infamous) Dell Monitor, the legendary E228WFPc. Made in May 2008.

I feel so tempted to scrap it, but it appears to be good except for the usual problems. Anyway, just wanting to get my first post out of the way and join the community more officially as a lurker!

Thanks for the resource, it's nice to not be so stranded with these bad devices courtesy of bad decisions on electronic design....

Now if I was more talented then just being able to read about hardware level flaws and steer people into directions for fixing them!

Noob here. Electrical Engineer but I work in marketing. I fix broken things in my spare time. I find it a challenge and rewarding. I fix mostly electronics and vehicles, but also the occasional fridge and washing machine as the need arises.

Looking to fix an LCD TV and a Plasma now. Will contribute any way I can in the future.

                                        cheers

I will be adding to a ongoing thread involving a Philips LCD with 3-4 "badcaps" and a couple diodes. Makes me want to jump right in and buy a solder iron, some Panasonic caps, yank the board out, and get busy... thanks to all for the info !
