    Caps needed

Hi everyone, can someone suggest to the admin to make a thread about what brand, type, value, and size that should be available for sale by BadCaps?

I personally need a 10V 470uF 6.3mm Diameter cap but there's no such cap available here. The only site i know that has this type of cap is DigiKey, but the problem is the shipping cost is too expensive. The lowest shipping cost to my country is $32 I could use that to buy 20+ poly caps.

Or does anyone know where to buy good caps with complete brand, type, value and size that also ship worldwide and has a reasonable shipping price?

He has a good reputation, I have bought from him before. His caps are not fakes!

Thanks bigbeark, but they don't have 10V 470uF 6.3mm Diameter cap too.

        Re: Caps needed

If this is for a motherboard then a 6.3v cap can be used [as long as ESR is as low as old cap].

        Mobos only have 12v, 5v, and 3.3v.
You know a 10v cap is not on +12v power.
That means it's on 5v or less,, so a 6.3v cap will work fine.

That trick does not work if it is not a motherboard.
If it's not a motherboard you would have to measure the actual voltage to know if a lower volt cap would be okay.

Great info PCBONEZ, thanks. But what about the uF should i use the same or is it better to have a higher uF? The only 6.3mm diameter 10V cap i found available has only 330uF capitance, is it ok to use that? I also found this 6.3V cap, which one should i buy?

              .
As i mention in my thread it's for Intel mainboard it has alot 10V 470uF 6.3mm Diameter scattered all over the board.

What is this 470uF cap's Ripple and ESR?

              It's Nichicon VR 10V 470uF 6.3mm Diameter. I don't know the spec BONEZ .

I'm sorry Topcat, but the diameter doesn't fit in, i need a 6.3mm
              This is frustrating.....

Ahh, my apologies, I just looked at the value and voltage, diameter got by me.... Good luck on your search. Digikey will have something compatible I'm sure, or maybe mouser.

Nichicon VR 10v 470uF is a size 6.3x11 GP with rated ripple 350.

NCC KZH 6.3v 470uF is a size 6.3x11 Low Impedance/Long Life with rated ripple 500.

So, the KZHs you found, should work fine.

470uF in 6.3mm is a bit hard to find. Most are 8mm.

I think I've seen a few models of boards with them in all these years....The most common ones were ECS P3 boards with these in g-luxon, that were in some kind of arcade games that a client sent me many dozens of for repair. Of course they were all toast. A 470@10 ZL 8mm worked fine. They were spaced out well, so fitment was not a problem. If they were crammed like the OP says, no, an 8mm would not be a good choice. Looks like I may need to look into having a small stash of these.

I ran across them in an Akai LCD TV. - I used LXZ. Bought extra.
I didn't even remember that until after I posted and checked my stock to see if I needed to get some.

                              Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

                              Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

Help with switching power supply caps
                              by captain150

This one should make @Pentium4 smile (if he is still reading BCN forums) – I got a new old stock / open box Casing Power MPT-301 PSU on eBay for $4 total.

Yes, it’s a very generic-looking box, but the manufacturer isn’t (at least not back in the days), which is…

Let’s look at the PSU itself.

The shell/case also appears quite generic, like many “sold-with-the-PC-case” units. However, the shell is well-formed and has decent steel thickness. In terms of...
